PS3 Stuck on Update loop CECHC OFW 4.81 no BD

Hello all,

I got a used PS3 CECHC with OFW 4.81.
Unfortunatley the BD port on the mainboard is toast and cannot be repaired.
Unluckily I tried to update the system to 4.91 but it fails with 8002f14e (no BD) Error.
There is no way to get the BD reattached to the mainboard, because the connection is beyond saving...
I want to know, is there a way to get out of the Update loop?
I formated the HDD on PC and via recovery mode on PS3 but it wants to update to the 4.81 FW. but this fails, too.
So currently I cannot even go to XMB...
I want to know, is there a way to get out of the Update loop without a hardware flasher?

Unfortunately, I don't see how. Ofw will reject a patched ofw or cfw, and obviously there's no way to patch with Bgtoolset if it's stuck.

Ok after trying several things the whole night, I am now able to boot to XMB without the drive.
I did the following:
1. Formated / Deleted the HDD on PC
2. Created a FAT32 partition with 30GB
3. Downloaded my actual system Firmware (4.81) and put the .pup in the PS3/Update folder on my USB (FAT32)
4.Inserted the HDD and the USB stick to the right port.
5. booted into Recovery Mode
6. selected the last option : Update Software
7. I let it look for the update file on the stick (took around 20min.)
8. It asks me to format the HDD, which I allowed. Again, you have to wait around 5-10 min.
9. Very crucial steps, if you are too late, you have to format the HDD again:
After finishing it reboots and looks for an Update on the stick
10. Immediately press cancel, abort the update and remove the stick
11. boot normaly
12.done

This is what saved me / the PS3.
If some of you are stuck at the same screen, maybe this will help you.
For comparison:
I have CECHC with NAND and tried to update manually from 4.81 to 4.91 OFW before I got stuck on the Update Loop

What happened to the bd port thas "unfixable"? Without the bd drive connected and without a flasher it would be imposible to fix, you can get a teensy and a cheap adapter on aliexpress and fix it if you cant fix the bd port, i actually have a problem like that where i fixed the bd port on my motherboard (COK-002) and now the nand is corrupted no matter what i flash to it its stuck.

i had the same reinstall system softare loop de loop problem but the recovery mode was unaccessible, no matter how many times i tried to go to rec menu it started the reinstall process. if i removed or changed the hdd I'd have a black screen for 1 min then a shutdown, still no recovery menu. i just took my bd from other cechc and it fixed it.

yes, afaik, you have to use psn versions of games.

I still have not repaired by mainboard and I havent plugged in a BDDrive. I dont know if I was lucky or not or did something special.
As I mentioned, I tried to update from 4.81 to 4.91 and had the loop. To get out off it, I formated the HDD and did the steps I mentioned

You could have tried to format the HDD.
I think the prompt to update is saved on the HDD, otherwise I cannot explain, why I was able to boot into recovery after formating the HDD.
Before I wasnt able to boot to recovery too.

Hi i tried the steps you show for the ps3 not updating with no bluray drive it goes back to safe mode when i hit cacel before it goes to update file .so i must be out of luck if only i could get the ps3 on cfw with no bd

No. On OFW which doesn't boot to fully functional XMB, you have no way to install CFW with noBD patches.

I cannot explain, why I was able to boot into recovery after formating the HDD.

Firmware is not installed in HDD.

hi thanks for that guess i got a paper wait now ill use it for parts unless i can get the power and data working on the motherboard cheers.
