PS3-HW SysCon 1701

Hello,

Quite new to the PS3 area, i managed anyway following the Tutorials to get Syscon Extraction for My PS3, and i can't figure out the root cause. here's some histoy behind.

1. PS3 Phat backwar compatible (4 usb port model)
2. bought as is, first test works fine for 5mn then starts to overheat, with glitche on screen.
3 full restoration, new thermal paste - > overheating just delayed by minutes. glitche still there.
4. starts the YLOD. no starts up possible anymore.
5. Syscon : mixture of 3034 and 4402.
6. Made a delid
7. now Syscon show only 1701. ONLY. no other error are generated.

now searching the Net shows some cases of 1701, but they were always coupled to other errors like 1601. but in my case it's always a YLOD, and the only error is 1701.

this error description alone does not help much in the error details list, so i was hoping if the's a way to continue squeezing the possiblities according to your expirience?

may be it is there from the beginning but overrun by RSX fault? maybe i f** up the delid?

i'm really confused..

A 3034 error with glitches are symptoms of a dying/dead GPU. Even if you did it right it would not have helped. Only a RSX replacement can save this console.
Still, for learning experience, what did you delid? The RSX, CELL or both?
  • If the RSX: check for chipped corners and/or deep scratches on the die and the RAM chips for separated layers.
  • If CELL: check for chipped corners and/or deep scratches on the die and if you damaged any traces on the interposer.
Maybe send over a picture or two?

I reopened the system and found one scratch on the Cell. Not sure if it impacted really a trace, seemed to me luckily far from any path. And yes, i made the delid for both RSX and CeLL.

While I don't see any broken traces if there is no other damage I would call that the culprit. It just makes sense to me. Then again, I haven't done a delid so idk ;) Maybe someone more knowledgeable will confirm the postmortem autopsy.
