I recently got all of the things to mod my SCPH-50001 PS2 (old 1th hitachi sata, sata to usb with external power supply, 64mb fcmb card, and sata adapter for my ps2). Everything was going well until I wanted to enable the normal PS2 startup animation, and I accidentally chose a wrong mc: to save to and it reverted to 1.8. I tried to reinstall fcmb onto the card, but it would kick me out onto the normal browser. I decided to try fhdb, and it works well, until I launch the installer (no memory card, only the formatted hdd with the temporary mpr file, and the usb with the newest boot.elf and newest fmcbinstaller

How is that even possible?

Try recovery mode:
Recovery Mode
Recovery mode allows you to boot a single ELF, in case your FMCB/FHDB installation was rendered unusable.
Place the ELF as mass:/RESCUE.ELF and FMCB/FHDB will boot it when you switch on the PlayStation 2.

If you are having difficulties with getting RESCUE.ELF to be booted, press and hold START+R1. FMCB/FHDB will make an infinite number of attempts to boot the file.

The latest version of wLaunchELF is here:

Another version is here:

Rename "BOOT.ELF" into "RESCUE.ELF" and copy it into root of a USB device.

After that you can re-install FMCB.

The latest version of FHDB\FMCB noobie package you will find here:
