Trophy syncing, a Tale of Two PS3s

I have 2 Playstation 3 systems.

Super Slim on OFW 4.86 - Used for all PS3 games
CECHA01 on Rebug Lite 4.86 - Used for my PS1/PS2 collection, ripped from my physical discs only as I keep most of them sealed in bags on my shelves and avoid taking them out.

My slim PS3 has recently had an accident and the disc drive doesn't function, leaving me with the CFW console as my go-to.

Trophies are important to me, and so is not having my account banned.

Please see if this scenario is feasible:

Play PS3 games on the CFW CECHA01, with a local account (non PSN connected). Update to OFW 4.86 (leaving all HDD files intact). Add PSN to the local account, then sync trophies.

Remove PSN auto-login from account, reflash with Rebug CFW, and continue on my way with everything how it was set-up before, occassionally repeating until I get a new secondary PS3. For what it's worth, I do have it set up with PSN Patch so I can't accidentally leave the account info and be logged in.

Would this process leave me with any ban risk? I know syscalls on the CFW would no longer be an issue, but I'm not sure if updating to OFW erases all traces of using CFW. Even with playing my physical games, Sony would have no way of knowing that I wasn't pirating, therefore I want to take the most cautious approach until I get another system.

Thank you!

Instead of installing OFW, install Dual Boot CFW.

Depend of what You have on HDD and what info exactly is collecting, in which circumstances. Which we don't know. ;]

Dual-booting is a thing?! I've never seen mention of that before.

As for what's on my HDD, it's the typical stuff. Webman Mod for organizing and launching my PS1/PS2 ISOs, with files and album art in the expected folders. No PS3 backups as the prospect of ripping them seems lengthy and tedious, although I might one day consider doing it.

And of course PSN patch plugin to keep my system offline, although it's not really needed as inputting my info isn't going to happen without me realizing.

No, no, this name is misleading. :) It is CFW but only with patches which allow You to install again "normal CFW" (if You install OFW, then You are doomed to PS3Xploit, patching flash, and after that installing CFW - unnecessary hassle in Your case).

Just in case, I recomending You remove every file and folder related to homebrew from HDD.

Yeah I just read a bit about that in a reddit post. Except the 'dual-boot' Rebug they linked to doesn't seem any different from the usual. How does the OFW install afterwards get patched so that you can reinstall CFW without going through the exploit process?

I would consider using a separate drive for it, as removing files/folders defeats the purpose, at that point I'd get another PS3 solely for PS3 games.

Do we know enough about OFW to know if they actually check file/folder structure on the HDD, for items leftover from CFW? I could certainly get a separate drive but if it wasn't needed that would be nice. Did a bunch of googling and some people have asked this on other threads with no response to it. Obviously with PKGs still there, they wouldn't run, but the failed launch attempt could be flagged, I'd assume.

Just my experience: I used littlebalup's dualboot since 4.82 for synching trophies on a single console, but i used a second clean HDD to be safer. My only issue was to do like 3 install of firmware (CFW to copy trophies on second HDD -> DB for trophy syncing -> back to CFW on first HDD). Right now I have 2 consoles, CFW and HAN, and I just make a .pkg file including the trophy folders and install on HAN for syncing after a rebuilding the database. Maybe you can use something similar by installing HEN on your super slim, install the pkg with your trophies, rebuild database and delete HEN before syncing. This would work if you use the same PSN account on both consoles, though.

You can export the trophy data?! That's interesting. I guess it makes sense if it's just files/folders, why not?

It seems like the HEN install process is pretty simple (looking at it briefly). Not necessarily a lot faster than a couple of firmware installs, but it would negate using a second drive and worrying about a ban related to PS1/2ISO folders being there.

Dualboot would be just as effective I guess, as long as I didn't launch a game that has an HDD scan as part of the eboot? (This is just what I can gather from reading; that being on OFW will never get you banned as long as when you were on CFW, you didn't play modded PS3 games where trophies are wonky, or run a game such as GTA V that scans the HDD). I don't even own and CoD, Battlefield, or Destiny, etc, games for PS3 anyway.

Thanks for the input, learning new options!

I think the second HDD might be a good option. I have a small older PS3 drive. If I were to do your setup, it would go like this?:

1. Set up second HDD with DualBoot OFW (littlebalup, etc).

2.Switch back to CFW with original drive.

3. Copy trophy files to DB OFW drive

4. Switch back to OFW drive again and sync?

If my account on the CFW system has no PSN attached to it, I wonder how the sync-ing would go, and if it would even work?

If you are going the route of second HDD with Dualboot, you first have to copy the trophy folders from your main HDD, switch to second, install CFW from recovery, install a file manager and copy the trophy folder to your user, delete manager, rebuild database (i usually run psnpatch to delete syscalls also), install DB and log in with your account.

I'm not sure how it works with blank trophy folders, but i think it adapts to the user when you log in. Maybe you can test on a secondary account with a single folder. BTW, does your trophies have timestamps?

I decided to ask before I did anything I couldn't undo. I'm sure they would though, my normal trophies have timestamps, but I'll have to test a few things out and see. I'll make a secondary account to try it with.

PS3 fw doesn't doing that.

Have You ever heard about file manager or FTP client? ;)

BTW: Why two different HDDs? Firmware is not installed there... So You achieve nothing doing that besides additional tasks.

Oh yeah, I already use FTP for transferring the ISOs I rip. I just didn't know that trophy data was something easily accessible, never really occured to me!

And 2 HDDs because it seems to be recommended for safety, although from what I can tell, it would only really matter if I used a legitimate copy of a game that needs an antiban eboot, having that game scan the HDD.

If You are unable to determine which data was created by homebrew and where the things are, then another HDD is safer option. For myself I think it is just another problem. ;)

About user data, maybe this come in handy: https://www.psx-place.com/threads/ultimate-userdata-backup-guide.29037/
Thanks, even with no translation, the directories are pretty self-explanatory. Useful info.

I can determine what is from CFW, but moving all those files is more effort than a second drive would be.

Time to do some testing when I have time.
