PS3 Trying to do PS3 Hen. But PS3 Superslim has broken BT/Wifi

I got this PS3 Super Slim off someone for $30. The initial issue was the bootlooping 8002f1f9 error, which I was able to reverse by doing the harddisk by following this guide :

https://www.reddit.com/r/PS3/comments/1fwlpt6/fixed_error_8002f1f9_update_loop/

So now, this system (4003A) is in 4.88 OFW. Is this unit SOL without repairing the Wifi/BT module? I just wanted to run PS3 HEN on this unit. But I can't even install HFW because I will just get back to the 8002f1f9 error.

Hi, did you use an official OFW PS3UPDAT.PUP file?
If that's the case, try replacing it with an HFW version.
Not sure it'll help, just taking a wild guess !!!

@CanB You cannot install OFW/HFW or CFW without noBT patches while you have broken BT/WiFi.

There is no workaround for that and never will be due to how Sony designed updater. The only solution is fixing hw.

Yeah I know that, but with his workaround from reddit with the hard drive maybe he can try it ?!?

It's worked for some, guy is definitely not gonna solder in a new BT module so its the only viable option

Sidenote: I still dont understand why people think super slims and 3k's are so reliable when there's a post like this every day on the forums, there is definitely a plague of dying wifi/bt in these console and it should be looked into further

Yep you are right !

Regarding the BT plague, I had a Super Slim with the exact same problem, but I gave it to a friend...
If I find another one, I'll look into it!

From what I can find it isnt a problem with power delivery since many have found dead wifi/bt systems with perfectly healthy power delivery, I dont think its thermals since the IC should never get above 50 or so degrees. Maybe the chips just have a flat out short lifespan, this was a problem with the USB controllers on 2015-2017 Celerons whose USB controllers could only move 50 or so terabytes before dying with 0 way to fix it, maybe the newer Marvell Wifi/BT boards can only transmit and receive so much data before conking out

Dead wifi is already a perm brick beyond repair for 95% of owners, I dont think HDD pulling is a bad choice in this situation when sourcing a new board and getting it soldered in by a tech is more than the cost of another KTE-001 and such

Thanks for sharing these crucial elements, they will be helpful!

Yep, it seems no matter the updater (OFW or HFW) it will try to update the BT/Wifi, leading to the 8002f1f9 error and bootlooping.

That hard drive pulling thing does is somehow being able to cancel the system update, it's usually automatic, and will just revert back to the firmware before the update. So still no way to update AFAIK.

Yeah, the thing was already a brick with the bootloop, and I don't know any place that can repair PS3s anymore, and if there are, I might need to travel hundreds of miles for it.

But anyway, thanks for the input guys, I guess this PS3 is just going to the drawer until I'm able to get it fixed. =)
