Hello! This is a tutorial on how to install 4GB+ pkg's on your PS3 with HEN!

1. Connect your Flash drive to the PC.
2. (EXTRA) Back up important data on your flash drive.
2. Search for "Run" on your pc.
3. Type in (or copy) diskmgmt.msc and run it.
4. Right-click your flash drive and click "Format..."
5. Select NTFS and then OK. (This will delete all the data on your flash drive! As I said, if you have stuff on it back up it!)
6. After formating is finished, go to your flash drive and create a folder packages ofc.
7. Now put the package in the packages folder. (USB/packages)
8. Connect your flash drive to the PS3.
9. Startup multiMAN.
10. Search for "Change multiMAN version to standard CFW mode" or something like that. It's in the last icon on the XMB menu from the left side.
11. After multiMAN restarts, search for "Switch between FAT32 and NTFS drivers" or "Switch between (IDK I think FTS) drivers.
12. After switching, go to OS mode (Start+Select or select it in the XMB menu)
13. Go to pvd_usbXXX/packages, and then copy your large package file.
14. Go to dev_hdd0/packages and paste the package file here.
15. Quit multiMAN
16. In the XMB menu go to Package Manager/Install Package files/PS3 system storage. The PKG should be here.

I hope I helped :D

yeah thanks. I remember I did something like that. I was hoping your thread had a trick to install directly from the usb flash...but of course, it would be known if it was possible.

All these steps are tedious and take a long time copying from PC -> NTFS -> PS3

There are some better/faster methods:

Method 1: PKG Linker
- Use PKG Linker 2.0 to serve your PKG from PC, the file is downloaded and installed directly from PC -> PS3
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/pkg-linker-2-0-serve-packages-to-your-ps3-han-cfw.17252/

Method 2: FTP the large PKG to PS3
- FTP your large PKG from PC to /dev_hdd0/packages then install from ★ Package Manager

Method 3: prepISO + webMAN MOD
- Create a PKG folder in the root of your NTFS or exFAT device, copy the large PKG file to that folder, then connect device to PS3.
- Install prepISO, then execute it. This takes only a few seconds to scan the device
- Go to BD & DVD folder of webMAN MOD and mount the PKG file.
- Install the large PKG directly from the NTFS or exFAT device (mounted as /dev_bdvd) using ★ Package Manager

Method 4: PS3_EXTRA + ps3netsrv
- Copy the large PKG to the PS3_UPDATE folder of any PS3 game in folder format
- Use my Create PS3_EXTRA tool to prepare the folder structure.
- Run ps3netsrv and mount that PS3 game on the PS3 using multiMAN, webMAN or sMAN
- Go the 2nd disc shown on XMB and install the PKG
(Due the "random" nature of the net_host protocol, the installation can be slower than the methods above)

Method 5: Split PKG

if the pkg will fit on a recordable DVD, you can install it without copying to HDD first. of course, if you have a Bluray recorder you can use that too.
The largest DVD's I found would fit 4.8GB, once I was installing a 16GB game so it wouldn't fit. Anyway, the DVD's are getting are rarer since now you can buy games Digitally.

not sure if it was mentioned, but another option is using IRISMAN:

with your NTFS usb drive connected, go to IRISMAN's file manager, browse the ntfs file system, and click (square or triangle I think) on the big "myfile.pkg" you want to install to open the options menu.
You'll see a "mount" option, select it and go back to the XMB.
You should now see the "myfile.pkg" in your Package manager folder, where you can install it.

Can't you change the HDD firstly? Then you'll have no more space problem...this 12Gb model is non-sense!...
never seen one of that kind but from what i understand they dont come with a hdd but do have an empty space for one.

yes, they can be easily upgraded to a regular PS3 with HDD. You just need to buy a 2.5" HDD and the ps3 hard-drive mounting metal case.

(... actually, if you want to do it 'ghetto-style', you can skip the mounting case and just use a piece of cardboard or any scrap you have around to make the HDD slip and connect to the SATA interface) (NOT recommended)

Method 3 is the best.(it's kinda slower than direct install from a FAT32 external storage though, it seems that the ps3 is copying the files to hdd and installing at the same time??) Thank you @aldostools
Do you know of any method to queue install several package files instead of doing it one by one manually??
