PS3 «TUTORIAL» - PlayStation3 - Coldboot/Gameboot Collection (0.90/1.00/3.00)

I know it is not the completly right thread but I got another question of XMB Moding. Like in 0.90 the PS Butten Menu where you can turn off the controlelr or the ps3 got nice backround images like at the end of this video:

Is there a way to get these also back like the cold and gameboots? that would be soo cool.
Better to talk about it here, we had a long discussion about it https://www.psx-place.com/threads/discussion-0-90-decr-xmb-entries-on-4-84.23060/

Long story short... is made in impose_plugin.rco but there is some kind of restriction and we was not able to identify how that restriction works
The only way to bypass that restriction was to remove some of the other images and reduce the size of the dualshock3 image a lot

Before anything does this work on a PS3HEN, CEX, CECH-4204, Super Slim? If i move those files in my PS3HEN will the gameboot work? Because i tried a homebrew that installs these files automatically but then whenever i try to boot a game or homebrew my PS3 just shuts off.

The files named coldboot.raf are an animation and are compatible with all firmwares, doesnt have any security or versioning, you just need to replace the file and it should play

The gameboot animation is something different, there could be some incompatibilities in between firmware versions

Hey, the "Sony Computer Entertainment" logo seems to be a very poor quality for some reason when my system boots up. Anyone had that?

Here like the original. Perfect. You are using the custom_render_plugin.rco or a coldboot. Raf?

I'm using the one provided in this OP, coldboot.raf. It it looks like very low resolution. Could you upload the one you use? Mine looks like this:
You should not delete the file custom_render_plugin.rco because is the responsible to load coldboot.raf (and is also the responsible to load the gameboot animation too)

-------------
The official rcomage releases have a problem where the images are resized to 512x512 pixels max size or so (for the PSP screen), but the PS3 firmware contains a few images bigger than 512x512 (one of them used in the gameboot, not sure if the other for coldboot is bigger than 512x512 too)

The result when rebuilding rco files with that versions of rcomage is the images are downscaled to 512x512 (and this could make them low quality and blurry)

Not sure if this is the case of the problem you are reporting, but it smells like that

Thank you. So what should I do to fix it?

Not sure, because i dont really know if what i mentioned is the cause of the problem you are having, and i dont know either if you are doing the mod yourself or is a rco file you downloaded from someone else

Anyway, to solve the problem of the image size restrictions you can use this version of rcomage that have that problem fixed
https://www.psx-place.com/threads/research-rcomage-psdevwiki-mod.17958/

Try to extract the contents of the official custom_render_plugin.rco with this version of rcomage and you will see some of the images are bigger than 512x512 (because has been extracted correctly at his original size)

I'm using this that some user of the forum managed to restore. he is the original of fw2.80. I don't remember the user name to give the credits but anyway ... with this .rco I just needed to delete the .raf.

it works on evilnat 4.88 CFW CEX cecha00 1tb 5400rpm. i've already installed the lines/xmb waves, coldboot, gameboot, old psn official blue logo with the word "Playstation Network". so now it's almost looks like the 0.90.

also i have some questions that i'm curious to know. today i just found out that i can extract the updat.pup file using windows apps called pup extractor or somethin i forgot it's detailed name. and i managed to extract the vsh folder from decr firmware 0.90 that i got from ps3 devwiki.
the reason i'm extracted the firmware is so that i can use the old icons like the system setting, display settings and many other old icons that's available on 0.90 version. can anyone help me? also another thought, can i just copy replace the impose_plugin.rco? cuz i have a feeling that's not the only case and i need to add the images of the dualshock and the image of the console in order to work. if so, what's the name and where is it located?

i'm sorry if there's something wrong with my grammar.

If you are having problems installing coldboot on 4.88, my work-around was to extract the zip in Windows, FTP the unzipped folder to the PS3, then manually copy the files into the proper locations. Not sure if this was the "right way" all along. I installed gameboot from Cypher_CG, and mmCM just installed the zip, like normal...

I previously had coldboot for fw 1.00 installed on 4.87, and naturally, that was wiped off when I upgraded to evilnat's 4.88. For some reason, though, mmCM wouldn't recognize the .zip file as an installer, and it also wouldn't extract the zip contents, even after multiple attempts. Copying the .zip via ftp or usb made no difference. I don't remember if I ran into the same issues on 4.87. Is there something to the way the zip file is packaged, or maybe some missing metadata file? I compared the two and didn't spot anything different.
