PS3 [Tutorial] (Read Warning) Installing Red Ribbon Linux on Rebug 4.81.2 - 4.84.2 D / REX

DNwSt9g.jpg

Hi i just got to the point in step 12-13 where you have to find and run the .sh
But my ps3 tells me this and frezzes and have to cut the power to it in order to restart.
anyone know a fix or why this is happening

I have this same error, but I cannot get into recovery mode because every time I do so I boot into petiboot instead, can anyone help me with this? Also if I manage to restore the system will I have to resize my the vflash/nand region and reinstall petiboot? If this error persist should I just reinstall the cfw that the thread showed me? Should I re-download the entire provided package for this procedure as I could have gotten a bad download? I followed all the steps to a tee so it really baffles me that something went wrong.

I did, i did all the steps, go toolbox, resize vflash, install petitboot from usb, then launch otheros and nothing, it reboots to gameos
The only other thing i can think of is that you installed the wrong version of petitboot. If not, then i have no clue whats causing the problem.

Since you are the maker of this thread I have a simple question for you, if I restore my ps3 and reinstall the firmware you put in the tutorial will it get rid of the error I posted I keep getting? Also how do I access recovery mode when it always boots me into petiboot?

It should do yeah, ive never know petitboot give stack dumps like that.

Also how do I access recovery mode when it always boots me into petiboot?
I've known this to be an issue sometimes with petitboot. When in petitboot, choose the "Return to GameOS" option, i think it does that sometimes because it likes to change the boot order or something along the lines of that.

Just did that, now in recovery, once I reinstall the firmware will I have to reinstall petiboot?

Now it says my system software can't be run correctly and that I need to reinstall the system software, I could do this but I thought I had to restore the ps3 first.

Attempt to reinstall the firmware.
Did all the steps now I just get a black screen when I click reboot into otherOS.

Edit: it didn't recognize my usb and after a reboot it worked however I got the same kernal paging request error as before, it also would not let me change directories to the specified directory for NOR ps3s, tbh I don't really know what to say since I re-downloaded the entire package and reinstalled everything (formatted the ps3 twice to make sure). I hope there is some sort of solution for this besides reinstalling everything again and hoping for the best, I must be the most unlucky person following this tutorial.

Edit 2: I managed to enter the commands before it froze, however when I went back to the main bootscreen to try to load the live cd it froze before I could do so, I will test it one more time and try to see if I can now load and install the OS. I wish I could find out how to solve this problem.

Edit 3: Managed to load up red ribbon linux, have not installed it yet since I don't know whether the console was able truly partition the drive.

Edit 4: "The resulting partition is not aligned for the best performance." I'm just going to have to reinstall everything again and try for the best.

Edit 5: I just got it to begin installing the system, hopefully it works and I will just have to deal with petitboot constant freezing because I already reinstalled it once with completely freshly downloaded files and it still has that error, if their rlly is a fix for it I will reinstall it completely (should it succeed). I know I didn't make any errors while doing this tutorial, I followed all the steps, so for now I will just live with that stupid error though and just leave petitboot as quickly as possible.

Edit 6: successfully installed the system, hopefully I can deal with that error for now until I can find a solution to it.

Edit 7: does anyone know how to get the wifi working on this thing? Does it have wifi support?

There was no ¨Live¨ Option... I did everything and typed petitboot. no live option.
Then you either didnt extract the iso properly, or the ps3 isnt detecting your usb drive. Certain usbs dont work on ps3's. Also make sure its formatted to FAT32 and not NTFS.

I know, its fine. I tried to reinstall the software, the one u gave me, and now my ps3 stays black screen-ed and freezes kinda. not even displaying, no signal, everything is plugged in right, etc. its on too. safe mode wont boot either

Well then i have no clue, the tutorial is bulletproof and the only way it can go wrong is if the end user does something wrong.

Hey, wdym by extract it? u mean burn it/make it bootable?
Extract the contents of the .iso using WinRaR or 7-Zip onto the USB Stick.

Well now actually it said Failed: kexec /var/petitboot/mnt/sda1/live/vmlinux
That means the file is missing. Make sure all files are extracted.
