PS2 [Tutorial] The Great PS2 AIO Guide

Is this guide still applicable today? I have an SCPH-50001/n PS2 with Sata modified official Sony Network Adaptor and a newly purchased Seagate Barracuda 2tb HDD. I am thinking about following the guide for FreeHDBoot (FHDB) method instead of the FreeMCBoot (FMCB) method and using one of the pre-configured FHDB RAW Image's. Which method is better?

try using funtuna

hi i tried to use funtuna and it works now thankss! but now i have a new problem the games are not working it will go black screen
the black screen happens to some games. You need to go into opl and set it up properly per game if this happens. There are toggles for certain games .I forgot what it is but the opl settings fro specific games have settings in opl. you need to see that list and set the correct settings for each game you got that is black screening.

I really did not use this ps2 stuff in a long time so i forgot where but you will find the opl settings for each game that give problems.Sorry for the vague information but i have not looked at these things in months .

Hi, I have a PS2 Phat 30001 with GameStar network > Sata Adaptor that doesn't boot when I install HDLoader or HDD-OSD

I already tried to install different FMCB/FHDB versions (1953, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966) and when I install it, the boot by Internal HDD/SSD after installation doesn't work. (obs: it shows a message of installation success)

If I boot my FMCB > OPL from MemoryCard it shows my games from Internal HDD/SSD but doesn't run, everytime is a black, green, orange or yellow screen.

I already tried easy ways with HDD Raw Copy Tool (from about 6 tutorials) and this doesn't work too, I formated 4 drives using different ways (PFS+ Batchkit, Winhiip, etc)

If I open same OPL I can run my games from same external HDD/SSD/Pendrive or MX4SIO in ExFat

I already tried different disks (2TB Seagate Barracuda Sata HDD ST2000DM006 / 1TB Seagate Barracuda Sata HDD ST1000DM010 / 250GB Samsung SATA SSD MZ-7TD256D / 750GB SATA HDD WD7500BPVT

did you figure this out? i am having the same issue.

i have a fat ps2 300001. i have the gamestar sata adapter and the fmcb memory card. i have followed all the steps on and every time after i format the drive on the ps2 using ulauncher after i power off the ps2 and power it back on it says i need to format again. this has happened on 3 drives, all 1tb. i have also flashed the image for fhdb onto the drive from my pc using hdd raw copy tool and when i insert that drive none of the games show up and i check ulauncher it says the drive needs formatted as well. i have spent the past day watching videos and reading forums and tried multiple things and cannot figure this out. any help would be appreciated.

Hello and thank you for this extensive tutorial.

My question is: is it possible to do all the same on linux? Does anyone know alternative soft for the PC side of FHDB path?

Thank you.

I think I got it now. You refer to an FMCB method instead of FHDB. With this method formatting hdd and installing homebrew software can be done on the PS2 side. Then I can use hdl_dump to write the ISOs onto the drive. Correct?

Just created an account to say thanks for posting this!

I followed the steps in this guide and successfully got my fat PS2 set up with an internal HDD with OPL and was able to provision some games.

Including the pre-configured images saved a bunch of time for me and the whole thing was relatively painless. Thanks for putting the time into this :flustered:

You can start over, because HDD images are NOT meant for permanent usage!

They break the APA-Chain and you WILL run into problems somewhere. Problems that Noone else has.

Exception: Mini-image of LaunchELF and then formatting and installing through it.
