And that is the reason. You didn't read tutorial or this thread, because You would also copy xRegistry where NP Account ID are for all users. ;)

Hey Berion,

Big thanks for pointing out that detail! I've gone through the backup guide again, and it's solid.
However, it seems I might've missed some crucial steps in the restore process.

Now the steps:
1. Copy "00000001" back to "dev_hdd0/home/00000001/"
2. Drop the "xRegistry.sys" file into "/dev_flash2/etc/"
3. Option "4. Rebuild Database"

Are there any additional steps I should be aware of?

Should I also restore the "NAND/NOR Memory Image" and the "EID Root Key," or are the steps mentioned above sufficient?
If yes, where and how exactly do I place these data?

Appreciate your help in advance!
Cheers

@free1616 You don't need to copy everything back again since You already restored all User Data. Maybe with one exception: delete trophies and restore them again because I don't know if something wasn't modified in the moment where game tried registering its trophy set. So just in case, to avoid potential problems in future.

So normally procedure would looks like this on another console:
  1. Restore xRegistry.sys and reboot.
  2. BSOD will appear so press start+select if I remember right, or reboot again (TBH, I don't remember now, depend what BSOD displaying).
  3. Now console will boot normally to XMB so restore the rest of data and rebuild database at the end.
On the same console:
  1. Restore xRegistry.sys and user data, then rebuild database.
There is no need of restoring flash. Purpose of having backup of it is to preserve IDPS key and NOR/NAND dump in case it will corrupt one day for some reason, so user would be able to restore console to working state which without this dump, wouldn't be possible.

ERK is a key for access data to HDD outside PS3 because from this key, HDD keys are generated. So in case Your console die one day and You didn't backup some stuff, You still be able to do it without repairing console (HDD encryption is per console, so another console will not accept data on this drive because it will not be able to decrypt any sector from it).

Restoring by the same way as backuping. By file manager or FTP client.

Hi, I finally got a bigger hard drive and use flash. Put it in FAT-32 format. Unfortunately, can't just use default PS3 backup utility. Tried following instructions but pretty difficult. Got the Registry, can't seem to find the EID root key. I have multi-man installed. Got the error "800283e4" when trying to back-up regularly. Figured this would be easy, but probably should have done this before installing CFW

EID root key is not stored in the xRegistry.sys file. It must be dumped with proper tools, that can only be run with CFW.

REBUG Toolbox and Evilnat's CFW 4.90 can dump the EID root key into a binary file.

Is EID root key required?

I can't use ps3 backup utility because I keep getting errors, but I already backed up trophies and save data using Aldo Tools. Can I just use a file manager like Multi-man to transfer files on the USB? it looks like game data might all be in _dev_hdd0. I also have some games from the PSN store I downloaded. I'd like those obviously, but since it's hacked I probably won't re-login into the PSN account, even to reactivate.

Berion already answered your question. EID root key is required only to read your PS3 HDD from a PC and copy everything that you need, way faster and without the need of your console.

Read the tutorial in which thread Your talking. :P All places are there explained.

How You will read data depend of Your preferences. If on PC with connected PS3 HDD, You need ERK to deal with his encryption. If on PC via FTP client, You need run FTP server on PS3. If on PS3, You need file manager like eg. one build-in multiMAN.

But FTP is unstable. USB slow. So recommenced is direct copy from HDD, which means You need ERK and follow by my tutorial (or read readme for PS3 HDD Reader if You prefer this one instead my toolkit).

I thought that the default backup utility would save game data, saves, and even copyright protected saves if using the same console, but you'd just need to re-install CFW. Looks like it might be easier to just delete some game data, and load a few games rather than backup your old stuff. Although, the hard drive on mine is old and laser is failing anyways.

I could use a bit of help with this.

Before installing CFW on my console, I was on there with my SEN account and such. I'd honestly rather not be connected to SEN anymore, so I know I'll have to reinstall all my games. (If I read it right, my games won't reappear unless I reconnect to the Sony network) I can deal with that, but for the life of me, I can't get my game saves to work. Even when I re-sign them in Apollo, I can't seem to get them to work.

If I import my old SEN profile over, the saves will seemingly work, but then my SEN info is on there, and that's always a bit of a risk.

I'd LIKE to be able to start a fresh profile (with the same name), but NOT have it connected to SEN, and still have my game saves work.

Please advise. Thanks in advance!

After you create the new profile, with that profile selected on your PS3 you must create a fake act.dat file. Once you have that file, you can resign all your savefiles to be used only with your new profile.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I know I had activated the PS3 (via Apollo) which I believe creates a new act.dat file. And I was still having those save/trophy problems.
I even went back to the original hdd and re-exported the saves and trophies via Apollo.
Still gave me issues.
Appreciate the help.

I don't know exactly what are the steps you have taking with this, it should work. But the easiest solution here would be to export all the saves from the owner's account via Apollo Save Tool, which can remove the signing while exporting all of them.

I don't see any connection between not using SEN and reinstalling games. That have no sense to me.

SEN connection have nothing to do with games appearing in XMB. Again, I don't know from where this conclusion came from.

Who tells You need to login to SEN? Especially that now it requires 2FA and is super annoying to do.
I'd LIKE to be able to start a fresh profile (with the same name), but NOT have it connected to SEN, and still have my game saves work.
That means You need resign all saves for target profile which must be first enriched by NP Account ID (must be activated and Apollo give it some random ID if I'm not mistaken).

Using the same console only, excluding trophies and licenses.

Backup utility keeps crashing. After I rebuilt the file system I got it to get past 0%, but I get an error message about half-way through. I also rebuilt the database but it still won't back up. Even trying to just manually copy the stuff via a file manager I'm getting errors. I've been reading a lot of forum posts and it looks like a lot of people have problems with ps3 backup utility. Some say copyrighted saves cause an error, but I know subsequent updates they fixed that to allow the backup utility to backup copyright protected saves. Others say downloaded games from PSN store cause an error. And finally any one of your game data files may be corrupted, causing an error but Sony doesn't narrow it down to which game is corrupted. Is the best solution to just copy saves over and re-install every game via disk and re-download the stuff via playstation store? Should I use psn patcher for that if I have CFW?

Read it on PC. ;)

What You heard is nonsense. Probably You have damaged UFS2 (bad sector or whatever reason).

I finally just decided to go pc route once I found that erk file. I already moved over most of my saves/trophies/etc to new bigger hdd and everything's working great just need to finish the game install stuff and everything will be back to normal. Thanks.

Dear friends of this great page, thank you in advance to the collaborators and administrators for the years of work dedicated to this area.

I have my first question and help regarding Mod Nation Racers game data backups. BCUS98167_UCC
As you can see, it is content that I downloaded back in the day when it worked online and there was a community that created content in the game.

What I need is to know how to activate this content again on another ps 3 different from the one that downloaded this data with a functional psn account of the same user, to replace the original ps3, try copying and pasting this folder with multi man file manager, but It didn't work since I think that perhaps the original user's files need another treatment so that it recognizes the content in the new p s 3 since as I read from this tutorial that it was required to keep the same user numbers and so on to be able to make backups, but in my case , even in the same account logged in on the destination PS 3, it did not recognize the data of the game in question.
Thank you, if possible, please suggest that I bring a personal post about my query on the subject.

@MindAns, did you make sure to copy the act.dat file? The license may be preventing the game from loading any maps or content you downloaded. I also had that game and would be great to use all the maps I downloaded.
