PS3 [UPDATE 4.82.2 Released) 4.82.1 REBUG REX CFW (w/ COBRA 7.55) + Homebrew Updated for 4.82 DEX

Update (April 16) for DEX user's >>> REBUG 4.82.2 (see update below)
We seen the release of 4.82 REBUG LITE (A CEX CFW) released but without the emergence of a 4.82 DEX Firmware in the public hands, we had to wait for a REBUG REX (a hybrid of CEX/DEX) release on 4.82. The wait is now over as the team has obtained a 4.82 DEX PUP and have the CFW ready to go. REBUG REX (w/ COBRA v7.55) is ready to take the plunge into 4.82. Also IRISMAN / webMAN MOD / ManaGunZ by developer Aldostools/Zar to add support for this new release.

Having an issue with 4.82.2 D-REX after ps3xploit v2.0 on a CECHG01, only 1 out of a dozen to give me this issue BUT for me Rebug won't load homebrew or install any pkg file other then the supplied toolbox. All CFW XMB option are available such as debug options and CFW options folder....Any takers on helping with this issue?

Try a fresh reinstall of Rebug to see if that alleviates the issue.

You should not be able to Install D-REX on a freshly jailbroken retail console, the system should not even recognise the PUP file, let alone install it.

Regarding the "issues", I would suggest to check the tested homebrews & pkg files because if you were able to install the Rebug Toolbox, the pkg manager works fine & all "debug" pkgs should install fine.
As to an option such as CFW Settings, unless you installed some other brew or made changes to the system files manually, it can only be displayed if you turned the feature on using the Toolbox. The Toolbox being a homebrew, if it launches, all homebrews should run just the same.

My apologies I Meant REX sorry. And what I mean is that all the normal Rebug XMB options are there as should and CFW settings in XMB is already enabled as far as I can tell from the other REX 4.82.2 installs this week they were all pre-enabled. And I can not install any packages other than the default pre-loaded toolbox......Not a n00b

Cfw Settings should be disabled when you launch the ps3 after you installed Rebug.

Here is an excerpt:
I understand BUT it still does not changed the fact that it IS indeed pre-enabled on all REX 4.82.2 installs i did this week and was something I took notice to. Normally yes you have to enable Custom Firmware Tools from the Rebug Toolbox, I know this BUT it is an official Rebug 4.82.2 REX straight from Rebug.me so I am stumped lol been at this since I was talking to you the other day. On another side note the console itself was stuck in a 4.31 update loop before i recovered it and updated to OFW 4.82

It's possible that Joonie changed the default setup in 4.82 & forgot to update the website description, you could extract the PUP /dev_flash files with Puadgui to confirm..

It makes no sense for the Rebug Toolbox to be installable but no other debug pkg which are signed in the same way..
Can you try installing another debug pkg from internal hdd instead of USB? Download the pkg using the browser or whatever..
And pls clarify if you can launch the Rebug Toolbox after installation..

Tested and still negative, Custom Firmare tools is confirmed to be pre-activated. Can not get any PKG files to migrate to the system and it will not open the only pkg it does install. Not giving up on this one ;)

Have you tried this.... on the root of your USB create of folder and call it "packages", any packages put in this folder will automatically be recognised by Package Manager in "Install Package Files" - "Package Directory" <They should appear here.

Other ways are.... Using the File Manager option of any Backup Manager such as MultiMAN, MananGunZ or IRSIMAN, navigate to "dev_hdd0" and create a folder on the root of the HDD called "packages". Then you can copy any of your packages to this folder using the file manager and they will appear in "Install Package Files" - "PS3 System Storage" <They should appear here. Keeps them in a nice and convenient place for easy install if you ever need them again without have to use a USB Flash Drive.

I'm a newbie and recently I've just bought a used PS3 BC CECHB00. When I checked the firmware version via XMB it's said "4.83", BUT when I checked it through multiman, it's "4.75" with Cobra version 7.1.
If I wanna upgrade it to 4.82.2 REBUG REX, can I simply install it as a PS3UPDAT.PUP file on XMB?
Also I was already removing the BD drive, do I have to put it back on before upgrading the CFW? Or can I just upgrade the CFW without it?
Thanks

that depends if your BD is working,if it's fully working or logic board works (basically everything except lasers) you need to return it and connect it and you can flash latest rebug.

if BD is broken or you don't want to return it you can flash noBD cfw and latest currently available noBD rebug rex straight from the developers is 4.84.1,i think you can find it on this thread.

you should always flash only firmware that is straight from the devs themselves with proper md5 hash to check,if not you're seriously risking bricking your console.in theory you can patch any cfw with cfw builder to work without BD but without proper test and confirmation you also risk bricking your console.

Thanks for fast reply.
Yes, the BD drive still works. I've removed it cause I'm only playing ISO & for more air flow inside the case.
So, how I suppose to upgrade the CFW? Can I simply install it as a PS3UPDAT.PUP file on XMB?

if you have heat issues especially on cechb model removing BD will not resolve your problem.you really need to change thermal paste beneath the IHS and that's not a task for newbie as yourself said it,it should be done by professional that knows what he's doing.

but yes,you can simply copy cfw to a usb drive (remember, always check md5 has or you will brick your console) and install it from XMB.

if you install regular cfw without BD it should not get you any problem, but you won't be able to launch anything from XMB.

Thanks for the answer & tips! :encouragement:
