It's summer and you're bored; what do you do with that amount of free time? You create "Apollo", a new homebrew app for the PS3! :D

  • you might wonder... why is it called Apollo?
    Apollo was the twin brother of Artemis, goddess of the hunt. Since this project was born using the Artemis-GUI codebase, I decided to respect that heritage by calling it Apollo.

    So, without further ado, let's present Apollo:

    Apollo Save Tool is an application to manage save-game files on the PlayStation 3.
    The apollo-ps3 homebrew app allows to download, unlock, patch and resign save-game files directly on your PS3.

    Features:
    • Easy to use: no crypto-key configuration or advanced setup needed.
    • Standalone: no computer required, everything happens on the PS3.
    • Save files listing: quick access to all the save files on USB and the internal PS3 HDD (+ file details)
    • Save SFO unlocking: allows the user to remove the copy-lock flag, enabling transfer of Copying Prohibited save files.

Is there a step-by-step manual?
I can't make things work properly.
The games can't read the modified saves and I can't modify trophies list.
Something is missing and I think I'm not doing something simple and I have no idea how to start.

Thanks.

ntfs is not a high priority for Apollo. Other features could be more useful, like allowing to upload/download saves to a ftp/http server.

Also, Apollo is stable and mature enough now, and I want to work on other projects, so it will be mostly in "maintenance mode" for a while.

If a file manager is included, the user would be able to move the saves to NTFS/exFAT without exit from Apollo.

This feature would be very easy to add if you use Simple File Manager, It would be as simple as add the reference to 3 libs (libsfm_ps3.a, libfatfs.a, libntfs_ext.a) and call the file manager with a combo or from an option in the menu:
Code:
// exFAT File Manager
extern s32 fmapp_run();
fmapp_run();

I agree, to decrypt PS2 games that are >4GB we need NTFS/exFAT.
And if possible, the encrypted results already have a game title ID so that it supports wMM config.

@bucanero, for the next Apollo Save Tool version update, maybe just name Apollo because its functionality is so extensive now.
Thanks.

I am unsure what PS2 has to do with this, but my PS2 ISO's are run decrypted by the way.

Translating ps3 games is never a quick & easy job. There are various factors in play, the original & target languages for starters but also the language support implementation in the game, like the characters storage type (ASCII, wide characters etc..), the language strings storage method or the use of system features like the OSK panels or dialogs that cannot be changed without patching the executable code itself.
When the game is already multi language, its language support implementation often makes the job much easier, in other cases, the difficulty may vary.

You are not likely to find a tool that automatically translates any PS3 game into the language of your choice, anytime soon.

I ran into a bug(?) while using this homebrew app.
So i launched the app (idk what version it was on) it asked me to update and i said okay, it downloaded the update to the packages folder and i installed it from there, before launching it, i checked the version and it was 1.65
running the app put me in the idk what it is called mode that asks u to restart the console or reinstall the firmware. i restarted and had the file system check

what's your firmware, ps3 version, HEN, CFW? Apollo has been tested on HEN and CFW without issues. Maybe you have some mods or plugins running?

you can also try the previous version, 1.6.4

I think the problem was with the in-app updater, i realized that the pkg it downloaded was only 320kb, im on rebug 4.84.2 D-REX (im on DEX) btw.
I manually installed apollo 1.6.5 myself and it worked as it normally should so im pretty sure the only problem was with the in-app updater, it downloaded or created some kind of a corrupt file. I can try installing apollo 1.6.4 and using the in-app updater again to share the corrupt file if it happens again so maybe you guys can inspect it.

@bucanero

Could maybe add in the future options to decrypt/encrypt to and from usb000?

it could be added, but as mentioned somewhere, I'm mainly focusing on PS4 homebrew right now, so don't expect any updates to my ps3 homebrews for a while. (assume those projects are on maintenance mode)

so I suggest to open an issue on GitHub apollo-ps3 project so I can tag it and keep track about this request in the future when I come back to ps3 development.

Hi, I'm trying to use the Activate Account feature from this program, on a user where no PSN account was ever created, but it's not working for either my 4.88 Evilnat PS3 or my 3.03 HEN PS3. The message I always get is:

"Error! Fake account could not be saved in xRegistry.sys"

Is there a setting in HEN, CFW, multiman or webmanMOD that one has to change from default in order to get this feature to work? Does this feature always fail to work if the PS3's in question already have activated accounts on them? If that is the case, will the feature then decide to work when the CMOS battery fails and I'm using the PS3 in a place with no internet access to reactivate said accounts?

"Error! Fake account could not be saved in xRegistry.sys"

Apollo can only activate new clean accounts, and it will generate a random account-ID for that user.
It won't let you activate a user account that already had some account-id set. Just create a new user on the PS3, and try activating that new blank account.

btw, on Evilnat you can also try the account activation feature included in the CFW, I haven't used it but it should work fine.

Just create a new user on the PS3, and try activating that new blank account.

Finished attempting this. Still no luck, getting the same error. Happy to report that the other option you mentioned for the CFW PS3 does work, though, so thank you for that!

Are there any other workarounds for offline activation on HEN PS3s? Everywhere I read makes it sound like this Tool is IT, but yeah I keep getting this error even on freshly made accounts. Even though the CFW PS3 has other options, the same error in Apollo occurs there too for new accounts. Has anyone ever reported this error before? If not, I just cant understand why both my PS3s happen to have this issue.

Unless it has something to do with the Data Transfer Utility somehow screwing things up for both systems, as the HEN PS3 was the recipient of the CFW PS3's data a few years back (they both had OFW when that occured).
