Can I just search for updates in the "traditional" way or is it risky?

if it's a psn game, it requires the rap. it will be needed for every update as well or you'll get an error telling you to sign in to psn.

there's always a risk with online play, but I'd say that the risk is low. it'd seem that sony either can't see much or chooses not to act on it.

And where I can find the rap for psn games? I dont see any around!

a rap is an activation file with no personal information. it, along with your idps, and act.dat go through an algorithm to create a rif file, which is what the system uses to activate psn content. you'll get this by buying psn content.
