PS3 [UPDATE: October 06th, '20] HW Acceleration (RSX) Project Update by @ReneRebeTM

UPDATE (June 28th, '20) - Another New Video Released >>> The next PS3 NVidia RSX accelerated X.org steps
d(Original Article from Nov. 14) Is the PS3 a bit closer to gaining Hardware Acceleration (via RSX) in OtherOS (Linux) with a proper driver to enable the GPU chip? We are not there, but we may be getting closer to a reality. Earlier this year (back in April) we detailed some of the progress that the busy dev RenéRebe has made with unlocking the potential of the PlayStation 3's RSX chip and now today we have been greeted with a new video and what we can expect with this project as the developer starts to undertake the challenge of further unlocking one more component of the Ps3 hardware,. The developer has alot of videos on other intresting subjects in his diverse YouTube channel >>> (Bits and More) <<< many very informative video's..

As we could not install T2 on the PS3 with our regular installer image, let's finally fix and rework the small installer image to support such and older vintage systems with even less memory.

I'm just curious, can I ask what does this thing do?

The ultimate goal here is to finally have a hardware accelerated GPU driver for the RSX chip under Linux so we can have more substantial homebrew with graphics that look pretty good. For instance, my big want from this is a PSX emulator that can truly give us a hardware accelerated experience like we have on PC. Sony didn't enhance shit with the PSX games on PS3 other than upscaling them. With the power under the hood we should have at LEAST had 480p resolution. They did HD resolution re-releases of of PS2 games so they could have done the same for PSX. PSX games can look absolutely amazing with some higher resolution and who knows, maybe even custom shaders?

Anyways, end rant/

OMG! This means, this project is freaking awesome. O.O

if you mean psx games remastered, you'd certainly have to pay for it. final fantasy vii on the switch is amazing, but it costs around $20. that game on the psx classic is awful looking. some remasters cost a pretty good amount like x and xii on the switch, which are $50 apiece. I bought every final fantasy game on there (haven't started xii), and I'm sorta stuck on x. imo, it's worth it if you want to see the games be all that they can be.

I didn't mean a true remaster, I meant functionally taking the PSX game and simply bumping up the resolution and selling it on the PSN. The same thing they did when making PS2 classics. Those technically weren't remasters as a remaster entails more than an HD port or emulated release. Like the Shenmue 1 and 2 HD release on PS4 and Steam. Not a remaster at all, simply an HD port. But I would still fork out cash for something like that. ;)
