The Cloudflare SSL certificate provider upgraded their certs to ECDSA, they're no longer PS3 compliant. I just tried to install a let's encrypt certificate, it uses RSA sha256 as required, it's signed with a certificate authority included in CA_LIST.cer since fw 4.86 but it won't load. I may have found a potential solution with Cloudflare but it's 10 bucks a month.

All we need is a certificate that's guaranteed to work on PS3, the best would be to find a SSL certificate reseller that allows you to access a test page for each certificate they sell so we can choose something that works.

If anyone is savvy with SSL and hosting, or if they know a solution or a reseller where we can have test pages, that would be helpful. Pricing should be anywhere between USD 50 and 150 per year depending, I think.

So, in short, if there is anyone out there who has a solution, or knows of a reseller that can be used for this, please PM me with details or post them here in this thread.

Thats why running cfw is so desirable. You don't have to touch anything to activate it on boot like HEN. It just works.

That's not a CFW or HEN issue, but a hardware one. How are you 100% sure that with CFW you will not have the problems you've just said?.

Besides that, any other reason for the urge of installing CFW?.

Just wait until Bguerville finds a way to fix his toolset.
 
I'm new to all this just picked up a ps3 now i see there is a problem with setting up the cfw. I'm getting the browser error lol..Should i just do hen? Just want to do multiman and backups mostly. Ps3 games.

You have 3 options:
1-Use the fiddler workaround to access ps3toolset.com via proxy

Alright everyone, I just bought a 3000B PS3 Slim and it is on 4.90 OFW - what can I do now?? Even when I do the proxy trick it doesn't work. I do get the message for certificates but all else fails afterwards. This is my 4th PS3 and second that I buy in 12 days.

Sorry if I seem like asking to be spoonfed but I rather do this than risking a bricking due to hubris. Thank you.
It's better to look like dumb for asking than confirming you are a dumb by doing a mistake

I'd do it myself if the bgtoolset was still working for me but I do get greyed zones, "Memory Manager" "System Manager" and "File Manager" and with an error code (80710028) - The PS3 exploitation framework download failed

It won't work either way. Slim 3000B models are not CFW-capable. Only HEN can be used on them.

damn, bought a wrong model. It's alright, I wanted one as a dedicated PSone machine using a spare 256GB SSD or a 500GB SSHD. Why bother buying anything else to play PS1 games, right? It is technically a HDMI PS1

Just in case you decide to buy a ps3 for cfw, here are the supported models:
All ps3 OG "phats": Compatible
Ps3 slim models 20xx/21xx: Compatible
Ps3 slim models 25xx: Varies
Ps3 slim models 30xx and onward: Not Compatible.
All Ps3 Super Slims: Not compatible.

Well, all PS3 can run PS1 games. So, no issues on that front.

PS2 is the main culprit here. It's even better to get a PS2 Slim instead of a BC PS3.
