PS3 [Update v1.05] sMAN vv1.02 : New "Setup" Option in side-menu of new UI by deank

If you have not heard of sMAN already. its a new plugin from legendary developer deank. sMAN combines webMAN (vanilla) and recently developed sLaunch feature (that was a separate plugin complementing webMAN). So what is the difference between webMAN & sMAN, sMAN provides a UI experiance for changing games on the XMB, as seen in the ScreenShot provided directly from the XMB you will be greeted with this new way to mount a game. Prefer the original way? Then deank still has you covered with his original webMAN plugin as well. This update provides a new "Setup" option in the side menu and also completely does away with the "My Games" entry on the XMB and to launch the sMAN (slaunch feature) simple hold the START button on your dualshock controller to launch this new UI from the XMB. See full details in deank's release quote

Update: Deank also released a quick update to version 1.02 offering a few improvements/fixes outlined. Update 2: deank is on fire releasing another update to sMAN with the release of v1.05, note this version changes the START button to L1/R1 to launch the sluanch feature on the XMB, see all changes in the changelogs provided.

sman.jpg

  • sMAN (webMAN + sLaunch)

    sMAN 1.01 (2/192017)
    • Added "Setup" option in side-menu
    • Removed xml generation - no need for custom category_game.xml anymore
    • Removed xai_plugin/idle_plugin usage
    • Added x2 upscale for small images/covers (w/h < 336)
    • Added indication of current group mode (PS3 1 / xxx) under title name/path
    • Removed "My Games" entry from XMB - hold [START] to launch sMAN (Note: changed to R2/L2 in v1.05 see below)
    Update(1) - sMAN v1.02 (2/19/2017)
    • Changed netiso/rawseciso implementation (external) - use plugin slot #0
    • Fixed crash when trying to load another PS1 title after one is played
    Update(2) - sMAN v1.05 (2/19/2017)
    • Use [L2+R2] to start sMAN
    • The sprx is bigger (but actually uses less memory) because it contains some glued resources
    • It will use standard PS1/PS2/PSP/PS3/Blu-ray/DVD icons when there is no proper cover/image available
    • This version of the plugin must be named sman.sprx and loaded from (in this exact order):
      • /dev_hdd0/sman.sprx or
      • /dev_hdd0/plugins/sman.sprx or
      • /dev_flash/vsh/module/sman.sprx
      • otherwise it won't work. The first match of these three will be loaded.
sMAN resource files are located in /dev_hdd0/tmp/wmtmp/res folder. There are six icons, background and ntfs/net external plugins. You can play with them until the next reboot when they will be restored to defaults.
NB: Renaming it to webftp_server.sprx and other stupid things are not supported. :)
Thanks to @bguerville for his help about loading xmb plugins: http://www.psx-place.com/......

on rebug 4.841 latest release, i have disabled webman in toolbox, upon booting i have seen the firmware couldnt load, and 2 other hard freezes. FINALLY got it to work, went thru settings and are the same as my webman config. rebooted 4 times without failure =). though i do see webman loaded and sman1.11 (or close to that). when loading sman or slaunch (L2+R2) i see no tittles, but when i refresh html i see all my games. tried loading one but black screen of death. off to work so not sure whats wrong and where i missed a step. it did say xml and html refreshed and i did reboot. still no tittles. all my games are in IOS folder or GAMES folder.
thanX in advance

@barelynotlegal
I read your post many times but still don't understand half of it...

1. You are talking about disabling webman then not being able to boot...? That is definitely not ok. How did you get the OS to boot again?

2. You describe both webman (or webMAN-MOD? What version?) & sman being loaded...
... though i do see webman loaded and sman 1.11 (or close to that)...
Loaded at the same time? Or do you mean you tested one then the other? And what does "close to that" refer to?

3. Loading the games give you a black screen... So the game gets mounted fine but launching the game from the disc icon on xmb gives you a black screen?
If I understand correctly, you are not using Cobra for your games but JB folder format instead..
Do ISO games also fail?

4. You mention getting an empty game list after xml/html is refreshed & the OS rebooted..
Can you describe the steps in details?
What is the IOS folder?
Where is the "GAMES " folder? On internal hdd? On fat32 usb device?

1. booted normal, looked at modules, was good then boot text was fine, so i added sman to plugins then edited boot.txt exited MmCm and got firmware error. rebooted with controller plugged in
2. loaded toolbox and disabled webman, rebooted Lv2. noticed webman loaded po up (not sure version, stock with rebug probably) then sman pop up. as soon as i clicked on my profile it froze. pulled plug and rebooted
3. reboot then had to disable again thru toolbox. noticed there was a sman folder opened went to settings looked good for scan paths. when i upddate .xml i see nothing when i update html i see all games, iso and JB format. i click on one and it mounts correctly. hit play on disc icon and black screen.
(please note as i am not sure if it was iso or JB format i will check when
home.
iso location would be devhdd0/iso
and games would be devhdd0/GAMES
all on root of hdd0.

sorry forgot to mention before i left i disabled the web notification in the sman settings. so now no more "webman loaded" just sman. still no tittles

1. If you are loading both webMAN-MOD & sMan, you will never get either one to work...
2. If you are using both refresh xml & html then you cannot be using sMan but rather webMAN-MOD. In sMan there is only one Refresh feature...
3. You should use ftp to monitor the contents of boot_plugins.txt & the name of webftp_server.sprx in /dev_flash/vsh/module.
To use sMan, webftp_server.sprx should be renamed webftp_server.sprx.bak & there should be only one entry in boot_plugins.txt:
/dev_hdd0/plugins/sman.sprx

The latest sman sprx is available at http://deanbg.com/sman.sprx.

Ok. I know there is a webserverxxxx.sprx no .bak
As for plugins boot i have a webserver.noncobra.sprx
einstein psmapi.sprx (rtm)
and sman.sprx
(located in plugins not modules, correct?)
Thanx for heads up on the refresh options. Good way to tell. Yes the options in sman look alot like webman and i just assumed since based off webman lol

Your problems are most likely due to the fact that several webman/wMM/sman plugins are loaded at the same time when you can only use one at a time! Like I already explained, think about the fact that they are basically web servers operating on port 80 (among other things) so obviously they cannot operate concurrently on the same host machine..

A line of extra code could be added to Cobra so it would refuse to load a second webman/sman plugin when one is already in memory however I feel that ultimately it is the user's responsibility to load pertinent plugins & Cobra should not have to make those calls for you!

If the webftp_server.sprx file in /dev_flash/vsh/module is not renamed with .bak then webman is not disabled in the Toolbox & it will be loaded on boot.
On top you have entries for webftp_server.sprx & sman.sprx in the boot_plugins.txt, the system will attempt to load both on startup if the files exist..
That is potentially 3 different webman/sman plugins altogether, basically doing the same thing, that are loaded at boot time when only one of them should be used!

You must choose..
You either use:
1. The Rebug method. webftp_server.sprx in /dev_flash/vsh/module but no webftp_server.sprx or sman.sprx entries in boot_plugins.txt.
2. The boot_plugins.txt method.
webftp_server.sprx.bak in /dev_flash/vsh/module but you must decide whether to add /dev_hdd0/plugins/sman.sprx or any edition of webftp_server.sprx on /dev_hdd0.
Remember that you cannot have both sman.sprx & webftp_server.sprx in the /dev_hdd0/boot_plugins.txt. It's either one or the other.

Maybe you should look at @DeViL303 configuration manager project to help with plugin switching!

Regarding sMan, there can be no confusion, the setup page itself is extremely simple & has much fewer options. Same thing goes for sMan's XMB integration entries which comprises the game lists + eject, setup page & sMan GUI shortcuts.
Btw if I were you I would not disable the notifications because it helps you find out that something is wrong i.e 2 notifications means 2 plugins are loaded!

here is what i have for boot.txt
"/dev_hdd0/plugins/webftp_server_ps3mapi.sprx
/dev_hdd0/plugins/sman.sprx
"
i see what your saying about 3 kinds of servers.
so essentially if i want to use Sman, i have to rename webftp_server.sprx file in /dev_flash to .bak
(if i dont like it just rename back, becuase the toolbox doesnt correct?)
and disable ps3mapi (no rtm) but leave Sman entry in .txt

can i just edit the port that Sman runs? dont think i can with ps3mapi
(einstones CCAPI)

just checked and webserver is named .bak in dev. any the only webserver
i am intrigued about this configuration manager. is there a link?

No. Changing the port in sMan isn't sufficient, various other code changes would be required, that's without mentioning the memory management & possible concurrent file access issues to consider in order to run 2 instances at the same time...

The Toolbox works fine, it renames the webftp_server.sprx correctly. Not sure what you are doing if it does not work for you..

sMan does not include the PS3MAPI server code like webMAN-MOD does. If you need that particular feature, you have no other choices than using the latest wMM release. Maybe someone will mod sMan in the future...

The configuration manager can be found in this thread.

I can see toolbox is working. I give it another go tomorrow with ccapi disabled and see how that goes. Rtm is just a nice option.
Appreciate all the help. Thanx

@ DeanK...you said before that sMan combo L2 + R2 will be on blue button on Remote controller...is there any version of sMan with blue button enabled for sMan?...It's no big deal if there isn't any...just asking

The possibility was indeed mentioned during sman development but I don't think deank implemented it..

Hi. I just installed the latest version and I'm unable to boot the UI with hotkeys ("Hold |L2|+|R2| anytime"). Do I need to take any extra steps? For instance, do I need to remove the old mmCM?

No just make sure it's named sman.sprx and that the boot_plugins.txt is correctly pointing to it. And webMAN can't be enabled. Here is what mine looks like.

hdd0:/plugins/sman.sprx
_hdd0:/plugins/webserv_ftp.sprx

Both files are in the hdd0:/plugins folder. And the "_" (underscore) in front of the webMAN plugin leaves it disabled. So I can switch back and forth by swapping the "_" to the sMAN line should I want to switch back. Or you can just remove the line from the TXT to disable webMAN. You don't have to delete the file only the TXT. Then you need to reboot and you will see "sMAN Games" simply scan for content then reboot once more and it will all be working.

I apologize for not being clear enough. I don't have webMAN. I do see the sMAN entry on the list. The only thing that doesn't work is the key combination to launch the menu.

I had major issues with HEN and sMAN myself. The best route is to use DeanK's standard webMAN not aldos webMAN mod. Has a few less features but when paired with @DeViL303 HEN Toolbox you have all you need there. They aren't sure what exactly causes this yet but like I said if you use vanilla webMAN all issues go away. I got the sMAN menu once or twice but after that never again and it wouldn't detect PS2 games at all.

Hi I'm new to Sman i would just like to know where all the content goes on my Flasdrive i know Ps3 games goes in the GAMES folder but where do the rest go Blu-Rays DVDs Ps1 games Ps2 games PsP games and so on please i need instructions.

The most recent sMan version is 1.12.
The folder rules are the same as for webman & multiman.
