PS3 [Update v1.05] sMAN vv1.02 : New "Setup" Option in side-menu of new UI by deank

If you have not heard of sMAN already. its a new plugin from legendary developer deank. sMAN combines webMAN (vanilla) and recently developed sLaunch feature (that was a separate plugin complementing webMAN). So what is the difference between webMAN & sMAN, sMAN provides a UI experiance for changing games on the XMB, as seen in the ScreenShot provided directly from the XMB you will be greeted with this new way to mount a game. Prefer the original way? Then deank still has you covered with his original webMAN plugin as well. This update provides a new "Setup" option in the side menu and also completely does away with the "My Games" entry on the XMB and to launch the sMAN (slaunch feature) simple hold the START button on your dualshock controller to launch this new UI from the XMB. See full details in deank's release quote

Update: Deank also released a quick update to version 1.02 offering a few improvements/fixes outlined. Update 2: deank is on fire releasing another update to sMAN with the release of v1.05, note this version changes the START button to L1/R1 to launch the sluanch feature on the XMB, see all changes in the changelogs provided.

sman.jpg

  • sMAN (webMAN + sLaunch)

    sMAN 1.01 (2/192017)
    • Added "Setup" option in side-menu
    • Removed xml generation - no need for custom category_game.xml anymore
    • Removed xai_plugin/idle_plugin usage
    • Added x2 upscale for small images/covers (w/h < 336)
    • Added indication of current group mode (PS3 1 / xxx) under title name/path
    • Removed "My Games" entry from XMB - hold [START] to launch sMAN (Note: changed to R2/L2 in v1.05 see below)
    Update(1) - sMAN v1.02 (2/19/2017)
    • Changed netiso/rawseciso implementation (external) - use plugin slot #0
    • Fixed crash when trying to load another PS1 title after one is played
    Update(2) - sMAN v1.05 (2/19/2017)
    • Use [L2+R2] to start sMAN
    • The sprx is bigger (but actually uses less memory) because it contains some glued resources
    • It will use standard PS1/PS2/PSP/PS3/Blu-ray/DVD icons when there is no proper cover/image available
    • This version of the plugin must be named sman.sprx and loaded from (in this exact order):
      • /dev_hdd0/sman.sprx or
      • /dev_hdd0/plugins/sman.sprx or
      • /dev_flash/vsh/module/sman.sprx
      • otherwise it won't work. The first match of these three will be loaded.
sMAN resource files are located in /dev_hdd0/tmp/wmtmp/res folder. There are six icons, background and ntfs/net external plugins. You can play with them until the next reboot when they will be restored to defaults.
NB: Renaming it to webftp_server.sprx and other stupid things are not supported. :)
Thanks to @bguerville for his help about loading xmb plugins: http://www.psx-place.com/......

hey sorry to be such a newb, but how do i install this, looking forward to trrying. (rebug 4.81 v2)
its been a while =)

disable webman with the rebug toolbox, then copy sman.sprx to /dev_hdd0

Add a line into /dev_hdd0/boot_plugins.txt that says

/dev_hdd0/sman.sprx

Profit!

Note: If theres a line with webftp_server.sprx in that txt file, delete it.

@deank is the option to increase/decrease fan speed with select+right pad disabled, only max temp is enabled..it was good option to manually change lowest fan speed during game play...

No it is not disabled. Check your setup page and enable combos that you need and fan options to your liking. By default after the latest version only 3 shortcuts are enabled.

i checked again, only temp max change with select+up/down option is available, there's no select+right/left to change lowest fan speed..or is it only available in webman mod..thanks...

Could anyone teach me how to install sMAN? I already have the webman MOD. How can I do the switching from one plugin to the other?:apthy:

You are right... There are no such options in wM/sMAN. In manual-fan-control mode you can select the fan speed. The idea of "LOWEST" is that - the lowest speed. It is not something you have to dynamically adjust. It is one of the dozens of options that won't find its place in sMAN ever.

If you use Rebug & the Rebug Toolbox for webMAN-MOD, disable it there.

If you used webman, delete the webftp_server.sprx path in boot_plugins.txt, remove the paths for wm_vsh_menu & slaunch if they are there as well, at least while you are testing... Leave only psnpatch.

Then copy sman.sprx to /dev_hdd0 or /dev_hdd0/plugins & add its path to boot_plugins.txt.

Reboot... On reboot l2+r2 to launch sman.

Agreed, and i think sony agrees too, im gonna give 2 more arguments:

Internally inside PS3 firmware some files related with the original PS emulator are named "ps1", at code level this is the official codename

In the PSN store the games are named "PSOne classic"... this is because sony had to deal with this same problem too, if you want to place together games from different sony consoles you cant simply say "PS" (because is confusing), neither "PSX" (because is another machine)... so the only option they had was to say "PSOne" (because there was a console named like that)

PSone would be just like a PSX (the DVR PS2). In the sense that are not PLATFORMS, but rather models.

PlayStation
PlayStation 2
PlayStation 3
PlayStation 4

Then they all have acronyms:
PlayStation (PSX not PS1)
PlayStation 2 (PS2)
PlayStation 3 (PS3)
PlayStation 4 (PS4)

But you would not call something that is first PS1 (not at that time). it was not until we seen the PS2 that we started to use PS1 (PSone). During the reign of the orginal playstion it was most often times refereed to as the PSX

So the acronym for the PlayStation (before the PS2) was always the PSX..
PSX is platform.

The PSX model is a piece of hardware (PS2), so there is a difference and the two should not get confused or compared, because if you are searching for a PSX game you will always find a original playstation game, because there was no PS2 DVR games created.

This is exactly my opinion too.

Thanks a lot for the explanation.
I so only need put sprx on dev_hdd0 and then add the /dev_hdd0/slaunch.sprx line on boot_plugins?

You are welcome.
Yes it is all you need to do.
But it's not slaunch, it needs to be named sman.sprx, you cannot change the name or it won't work.

What a lack of attention i have :hopelessness:
I would like to know if I can edit the boot_plugins also by the mM text editor?:confused3:

$ony also named it PSX.

"Sony's North American division, known as Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), originally planned to market the new console under the alternative branding "PSX" following the negative feedback regarding "PlayStation" in focus group studies. Early advertising prior to the console's launch in North America referenced PSX, but the term was scrapped before launch."

Nice read about this. http://web.archive.org/web/20120831045434/http://www.edge-online.com/features/making-playstation

check post 101 http://www.psx-place.com/threads/update-v1-05-sman-vv1-02-new-setup-option-in-side-menu-of-new-ui-by-deank.12819/page-6#post-74035 :)

@Joonie can you redownload sman.sprx and test again. Hopefully all three threads should become dead/deleted.

@deank

I did the same thing that you asked , but with the latest sman.sprx just downloaded.

after unloading sman, all the sman_xxx are gone.

now it seems unloading properly. :), the mounted game also booted fine!

EDIT

@deank I noticed some unusual behavior, LED keeps blinking [White and Green] while playing PS2 games, and it's gone after returning to XMB and re-loaded sman

*EDIT 2

after several attempts, sman_main turned in to zombie now (after unloading sman, other sman_xxx are not there, but the total ppu threads are now 73 from 75~80)

blinking LED is gone now though
