PS3HEN Updating PS3 Super Slim with no Wifi/Bt module to HEN

Hi! Not so long ago a friend of mine gave me his PS3 CECH-4311C that did not even turn the power light on when plugged!

I spent all day troubleshooting and after determining it was because of a faulty Wi-Fi/Bt chip that was shorting, I decided to remove the regulator to isolate the entire area (as I do not have the skill or tools to replace it).

Unluckily, after I got it working I immediately stumbled upon the famous 8002F1F9 infinite update cycle on the first launch, as I was later told by my friend he accidentally updated. After following this reddit thread I managed to break out of it; https://www.reddit.com/r/PS3/comments/1fwlpt6/fixed_error_8002f1f9_update_loop/

Right now, the ps3 launched to the home screen and is operating in OFW 4.91. I was wondering if there was any way to install HEN for my friend, as I believe if I just try to install it directly I will get stuck at the update cycle again. Maybe following the same steps on the thread again will let me install HEN?

I also found this other reddit post and was wondering if maybe this contains the answer? https://www.reddit.com/r/ps3homebre...m_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1

Any guidance from people who know would REALLY help me. I just want my friend to have his old PS3 working again, and with full functionality!

You could use the BadWDSD exploit. I think yours is nor. You could then use it to install hfw, I believe.

If hardware route is not feasible, you have to wait for file manager from @bguerville , I think is your only other option, to get the old WebKit sprx on your flash.

Hi, hope you are having a great day! Thank you for the detailed answer, if you don't mind could you link me the resources which would explain each of these methods? I dont mind going for the hardware path

In the link we can read:
3- Turn on your PS3, count 5seconds (in my case it worked with this timing) and extract the HDD (look up on YT/Internet how to do it, it is really simple. Please mind that if you get a blue screen on the startup or the first steps, you're too early with the pulling out of the HDD, if you get a black one or a "couldn't find the firmware to startup" one, you're too late.
This is VERY unwise advice. Because yes, on the beginning, update package and archives inside, after the validation are unpacking to cache partition ("dev_hdd1/"). But after that real update starting, using those files, on internal flash. IF you interrupt that process in any way like taking out HDD, turning off the console etc. you will end with PERM BRICK, beyond repair.
4- If you have done this wrong, a blue screen is displayed.
Or console will not boot at all. lol

I already got a Pi Pico board, by hw flasher you mean something like the teensy 2.0++ with a NOR clip? Or is there any other recommended flasher

Get ready by getting pi pico and hw flasher. Also you will be installing qCFW. You don't need hen anymore.
