I'm in the process of jailbreaking my PS3 Fat CECHG03. I knew I needed to backup my firmware and/or my whole HDD first. I inserted a few USB sticks which were all formatted as FAT32 and MBR, but none of them were detected! I thought it might be because their capacity was 30Gb. However, when I attached a 500Gb SSD to a USB port, it WAS detected. I backed up my HDD using the PS3's built in software, but I don't know if this backup includes the Flash memory firmware.
Can anyone tell me why the USB sticks weren't detected? Can I somehow reformat them on the PS3?
I eventually found out why this was. The USB sticks had been formatted as ExFAT. This is different enough from FAT32 so that the PS3 doesn't detect them.
