wanting to change coldboot.raf on evilnat 4.90

so i got the idea to create a custom coldboot logo, and found 2 tutorial threads on that:

https://www.psx-place.com/threads/tut-make-your-own-coldboot-logo-and-sounds.17107/

https://www.psx-place.com/threads/pinkys-ps3-tutorials.1546/

the second one i was able to kind of follow, but it could use a little more detail because some things just didn't make full sense, and all of the links and images were missing so none of the downloadable assets were available so i kind of gave up. the first thread i was able to follow, but i have no idea what they mean by "put the files on your usb stick, go to ps3xploit.me on your ps3 and inject them." what does that mean? all that site seems to offer is jailbreak tools. my console is already on cfw.

but watching some videos and such, i would assume i could just ftp to the root folder go to dev_flash>vsh>resources> then rename the coldboot.raf to coldboot.raf.old, and drag and drop the file i made with Easy Static RAF Converter, and reboot the system. but the ps3 won't allow me to modify or overwrite the existing coldboot file. if i try to overwrite it it just ignores the request. if i open up mmcm and navigate there to delete the file, it just refreshes with the file still there.

other tutorials i've seen mention rebug, but i'm not sure, but i'm assuming thats a different cfw so that seems like a dead end. so is there a clear step by step tutorial somewhere that would be applicable to evilnat 4.90 on how to change the coldboot logo to a custom logo of my choosing? thanks.

Use this: https://www.psx-place.com/resources/coldboot-injector.1315/
But images create in DDS DXT3 or 5 format.

About coldboot.raf file. The way You put it on flash doesn't matter. You can use file manager, FTP client or some payload. You don't need to rename it, if it will be broken You need reinstall firmware anyway, if broken enough to boot the console fine, then write back original file or fixed one.

You need write privileges, which means mount point "dev_blind" or "dev_rewrite".

Do not expecting that tutorial will explaining every step but just necessary step for the task. Otherwise we could producing tons of garbage text, imagine that someone would expecting eg. how to download a file and how to unpack archive, and how to use file manager in every tutorial. So the same is here with mount point (it is not folder, read about partitions mounting on any operating system) with write permission.

In multiMAN it is somewhere in his Settings and it will be named like "allow write access to dev_flash", don't remember now (access from his fm or ftp). In WebMAN MOD also should be somewhere in settings and access via ftp.

It doesn't matter if fw is CEX, DEX etc. It works the same on all.

thanks. i'll try this in a few hours when i get home from work. that was the piece i was missing :)

yes. that worked. guess i'll make a youtube tutorial video since the ones i kept finding had some pieces, but not all pieces, and also the most recent was like 4.86 using rebug.
