NOTICE We sadly say goodbye to a great friend of the scene (R.I.P.)

Sadly we have bad news to report, the type of news that is never easy to relay to the community..
Our team and the PlayStation Homebrew community suffered a great loss a couple of years ago, when our great friend and an awesome contributor @UniqueUserName passed away.
We sadly have more bad news to share concerning another member of our the community and our team .

As if it wasn't bad enough already with passing of UniqueUsername, but some of our team's worst fears were finally realized very recently when we learned that one of our own, well known, well liked and very respected team member, a great friend to many of us, had also passed away some time ago, Sadly we have to announce @bitsbubba is no longer with us, but his spirit will remain with many and his influence/contributions will never be forgotten

We knew that bitsbubba was having some health issues and while he did get some good news for awhile, a return of cancer had seemly taken its course and a toll on his body.

This was someone who not just helped build psx-place.com & make it what it is today, but was a great member of the scene.
It is with a heavy heart full of much sorrow that we extend our sincere condolences to his close friends & family.
.

We welcome you to share some of your best memories and stories involving @bitsbubba.

Sadly I didn't know bitsbubba nearly as well as I would have liked. With all of the great things he did it's the way he treated myself and others that I knew him for. For example when I returned to the scene he was the first to welcome me and in a joking way. I wasn't planning to fully come back but instantly knew I was home.

When I came on the team I only remember a few people on the staff. Kozzy, pinky, sdw100, and bittsbubba. I didnt have to many one on one interactions with bits, but he was always involved in the day to day discussions in the forums. He always lightened the mood and had a great sense of humor on top of the limitless knowledge he always had for the site. Bits had a special way to keep the mood light while also staying on topic in the discussion.

I knew in the back of my mind something wasn't right for some time because it just wasn't like bits to up and dissappear like he had but had always held out hope he would pop back in and be a daily part of our place again. Bits will always be here at the place as an example of how good someone can be within the scene and never ask for anything in return.

I miss your jokes buddy and goin and back and forth with ya. I hope you have found peace and can continue to do the same wherever you are that you were able to do here for way to short of a time.

Thank you bitsbubba for allowing me to be a part of that.

"Official PS3 Scene Babysitter" bitsbubba was the first friend I made when I joined the PS3 scene back in 2011. We were both fresh to the scene at that point, and that could be one of the reasons we bonded early. He was always friendly, had a great sense of humor, and was willing to lend a helping hand whenever he could.

I remember when I got promoted to my first moderator position, and I tried to talk him into joining the team. There was a lot of drama in the scene at that point, so he was very reluctant to join. After about a year or so of my pestering him to join, he finally made it official and become one of the, if not thee, most liked members of the PSX-Scene moderator team.

Not only was he friendly, humorous, and helpful; but he was also extremely passionate as well. You can tell by all the projects he became a part of over the years, and all the goodies he created for the scene.

Many of our members who have been around awhile will know him as one of the site's Super-Moderators, and I cannot think of another who deserved the position more than him. He was always fair minded, and I cannot recall ever seeing him be mad. He would make everyone around him laugh and enjoy their time being a part of the community.

I can picture @nativesith and @bitsbubba looking down on us from somewhere up above with a smile and and cracking jokes. Two of my closest friends (and they were close friends with each other as well) from my time being a PS3 scene member, and two of the greatest people I have ever known. I hope one day I can see you guys again, and we can have a good laugh about all the fun times we shared.

Thank you for sharing your time on Earth with us. We miss you. We love you. Rest in Peace my brothers.

The community lost a respected contributor, psx-place lost a valued team member & some of us lost a good friend.

Bits had a way with people, he was easy going, very good humoured, he always had a nice word to say or a funny comment to make.
I also know how much he cared about a community to which he dedicated as much time as his life allowed.

But life can be cruel, it gives with one hand & takes away with the other.
You have gone where we cannot follow, you will remain with us though.
I will miss you, farewell my friend.

    May you rest in peace.

bitsbubba was a great friend in this community and someone who i spent alot of time with. Someone who i seen as a wonderful contributor at many places, he liked to help and he liked to do his part to help advance and progress the community and himself being a hobbist developer. He provided many solutions in the form of software and also with his words of wisdom that could be seen at his start over at tortuga-cove, Or later when i really got to know bitsbubba as we served on the same team over at psx-scene.com prior to us creating psx-place.com.

When i had decided to create this forum and site it was a descion that was not easy and one that wasn't rushed, but there was someone who i talked to and asked his thoughts and he was not only encouraging in his words he had my back and helped propel this site along with many other's but we have a missing voice and a void that can't be fulfilled as like so many of us in this community and world he was truly one of a kind and true gem to be around and a true hero in this scene for many reasons, bitsbubba will always be remembered for many great things and an awesome attitude and his legacy will carry on as psx-place marches forward in our fallen teammates honor.

We miss you Jason and we hope your have found a better place. Your spirit will remain strong with us all.

We from the PlayStation Developer Wiki are deeply saddened by the news that our long-time community member from the very first days of both PSX-Scene.com and PSX-Place.com, but also our long-time friend
bitsbubba passed away from a long battle of his illness against cancer.

Most of you will remember him for his various Homebrew Apps he developed such as his famous
COBRA CFW TOOLS, XMB Mod Collection, tons of different NFW Repos, REBUG Updater and more.
You will agree that to list all of them already deserves its own wiki for that purpose.

But that wasn't the only thing why he was such a highly-valued friend for us. His perspicacity but also
calmly behaviour in the Forums even on highly contentious matters together that he was one of the first members registered for the Forum to build PSX-Place as it is today after the shutdown of PSX-Scene showed us that he was a valuable member for the whole community you was always able to rely on in both good times, but also in difficult times.

But nothing above mentioned matters the most since he was also a great and helpful person both for our community, but also in private!

We will definitely miss him. Our late but deepest condolences goes to his family and his friends.

Rest in Peace 'bubba. Without your hard work, the whole community wouldn't be such superior as it became today!

Although I'm fairly new here and never had a chance to have a chat with him, just by reading all these messages, I can see how great of a person he was and all the contributions he had done for the scene. I feel the sorrow and it saddens me to see the loss of such an honorable and beloved member of the community.

My deepest condolences to his family and friends. R.I.P bitsbubba.

Thank you for the amazing video @Zoilus

And for those of you who are wondering about who @nativesith was, here is the article from PSX-Scene about his passing, which showcases some of his achievements.

...Basically, he was the founder of the GTA modding on the PS3, and responsible for pushing the PS3 GTA modding scene to the levels it reached. He founded the official GTA Mod Team which brought advancement after advancement to the series.

Yea they had a good team. i remember him quite well. Was a sad time then.

@bitsbubba my friend your not here but your are in spirit and in mind. I was just looking and i see my account is on 9,999 post and it was a sign i thought and my 10,000 post should be here with you buddy. @bitsbubba i hope this community was half as enjoyable to you as you have been to us. You were one of the good guys and you have and will be missed but not forgotten. I will never be able to watch a friday the 13th movie without thinking about you bitsbubba. Or i will not be able to look at my ps3 and not think of you buddy.

Me and bits would have alot of fun with his Jason Voorhies moniker.
You can even see that obviously with his avator but "Camp Crystal Lake" in his profile. i can't remember if that was an addition by me or him but we had alot of fun with it. or even :bitsbubba: custom smiley he has had since we opened the site 6 years ago.

This halloween, i think the costume of choice has to be Jason in honor of bitsbubba.

Bitsbubba was "the scene babysitter". No one wanted to mess with this :) :but in reality he was a really easy going person and was a great person to be around.

Damn one of the scene OG gone. That's really sad, his work and contributions to the PS3 scene won't be forgotten! The man may have passed, but his work and legacy live on

I had to read this several times before it finally sank in........:(

I had been wondering for a long time where bitsbubba was, if he was ok.... Now the worst has come to light.

I didn't know him very well, but I enjoyed the forum banter we had...mainly being constantly accused of being high as a kite for mis-reading posts lol. He is someone I would of liked to have known a lot better than I did.

Always helpful, always offering encouragement. The Scene has lost a great person and a Legend.

I personally know what it is like to lose someone to that evil thing we call Cancer, and so do many others, to watch them battle it everyday ..... My thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends closest to him....

The only comfort I can offer them is what I learned and took away.... He is now at peace and no longer suffering watching down on you....

Also I decided to do some Friday 13th/PlayStation style Graphic Art in memory of bitsbubba....

This is for you Jason..... You will be missed....

I love that image! I plan to spend some time watching horror movies tomorrow. when I get to friday the 13th, I'll think of bits. I know that there's going to be a lot of them on amc.

I know what it's like to lose someone from cancer as well (i.e my mom's side of the family and this). last March, my dad suffered two heart attacks, and only through either a cat scan or mri, they found one of his kidney's cancerous. they removed it earlier in October. luckily, it hadn't spread anywhere, but he still drinks and smokes like nothing happened. he rarely eats too, so he's now sub 200 lbs. I don't think he's going to live much longer tbh.

I love that image!

Thanks... took about 4 hours to do, 27+ layers, effects, edits, colour correction etc, 6 images used. Text was made in Cinema 4D r23 Lightroom and the rest was done in Photoshop 2020.

I had to re-learn some stuff in photoshop I forgot how to do but the effort was well worth it to make something in memory of bitsbubba.

I know what it's like to lose someone from cancer as well

Cancer is 100% PURE Evil.... and one thing that needs stamping out of the world... not only because it kills people but because of what it does to those closet to the person suffering... it destroys them, family and friends a like.

Once you have watched someone go through it day in day out and whether that person wins the battle or loses...... your never the same person again... it destroys part of you.

I think its so evil that I wouldn't wish this on anyone... not even the person I hated most in the world.

@STLcardsWS if you or any of the other mods/staff want to use the banner I made in my previous post for anything in memory of bitsbubba please feel free to do so.

damn. I'm not very good with photoshop (only learned it while trying to do coldboots in the scene). the coldboot I made for rebug is actually an image made by bits. I didn't know that until he told me. I got the image from another dev who asked me to make a colored coldboot of it. I never asked where it came from.

yeah, I think almost everyone has lost someone to cancer. my uncle also had mouth cancer. I think the chemotherapy was hell for him. maybe the two heart attacks were a godsend for my dad; otherwise, they may not have caught the cancer. I just wish he took this as a second chance.
