I have a broken ps3 (2 actually) and don't know what to do with them don't want to just throw them in the bin because that seems like a waste any ideas
Hard drive failed on both on was cfw and one was ofw bought another hard drive but that didn't fix anything hard drive seems to be working fine and I have tried everything I can think of to fix them so I've just given up tryingThrow them out of the window (but tell me where you live before doing it) jk
What is broken exacty ?
First thing you should do is to connect them to a TV and try to boot them without hdd. If you see a text warning screen in the TV it means the hardware is not much damaged, and the software is working partiallyHard drive failed on both on was cfw and one was ofw bought another hard drive but that didn't fix anything hard drive seems to be working fine and I have tried everything I can think of to fix them so I've just given up trying

Is the kind of test needed to do incase of serious problems, if you see the text on the TV screen is really a good sympthom
what are the model numbers? cech-??Yea it says cannot start storage not found
CECH-2503B and CECH-4003Cwhat are the model numbers? cech-??
In both ?, so you have 2 PS3's workingYea it says cannot start storage not found
I wouldn't say working when all they can do is boot the recovery menuIn both ?, so you have 2 PS3's working![]()
I have tried this many times with different updates hdd usb everything I can think of. The only I can think might be wrong is the hdd I have tested it as much as I can and it all seems fine I also bought another hdd but it was completely fucked so I don't want to waste more moneyIt just means that hardware wise, your ps3s are good and working correctly.
You have to re-install firmware after a hdd swap though, it's not just plug-and-play.
Download the CFW/OFW update pup that matches the current version installed.
Create folder structure on USB drive (usb://PS3/UPDATE)
Copy/paste the update to this directory (rename update to "PS3UPDAT.PUP" if needed)
Install HDD.
Insert usb drive into right most usb port on ps3 (the one closest to the BD drive)
Boot ps3, it will state there is no ps3 software found and search for the update on USB.
Follow onscreen instructions to re-install CFW/OFW
I have a working ps3 but I don't know if I should try the hdd from it as I don't want to break it aswell as having to format itFor repair purposes (and to hack them later) you can simply install 4.86OFW
But if you dont want to make an effort by using a different hdd then you are sol
hint: the problem seems to be in the hdd

The two hdd that where originally in the ps3s are long because I thought I could just reinstall the firmware on the two new hdd I have at the minute when I plug one into my computer the whole computer crashes the other hdd I have seems to be working fine and it's the one I've been using to try and reinstall the firmware I've have tried different formats on the hdd and none have worked.Have you tried to connecting the 2 broken hdds to a PC?
As long as you dont care about the contents on them, you could try a format and then retry installing firmware on ps3.
Also, the superslim ps3 has an onboard 12gb EMMC. So it should work fine without a HDD.

I didn't know that about the super slim so I'll do some research on that and see what happens
Both used one I had laying around and one I bought off eBay that's was apparently brand new but yet doesn't workThese new HDDs, are they brand spanking new? Or used?
This is a hardware problem located in the circuit board of the HDD, probably it have one of the voltage pins connected to a ground pin (so it have a short curcuit), and when you connect it to PC the shortcircuit is detected by the ATX PSU and it cut all voltage outputs for safety reasons...at the minute when I plug one into my computer the whole computer crashes
