PS3 What should I do with my CECHA?

Hi,

I recently bought a cecha from Japan and I wanted to know what should I do about it. The console is working I didn't test it very far yet I just know it has a recent firmware.

Basically I have two options:

-Clean the console, change the paste, mod it, play it until it dies and then Frankenstein it
-Wait for an opportunity to Frankenstein it, mod it and then play it

The first option is pretty decent on paper but Frankie is probably the hardest mod to do if it fail I would lost saves and all of the setup.
Option 2 is very cautious however since I have a slim (and I can wait) I am tempted to do it this way

What would you do or have done if you faced a similar choice ?

Before attempt, just hack your console (CFW recommended) and then you have access anywhere, including to HDD outside PS3 if you dump ERK.

Eventually, you can make System Backup and decrypt it on PC but it takes extremely long time to make, not contains trophies, you need your IDPS to access all archives contents.
 
Is the console stable? If it is put CFW on it and backup the NAND and ERK keys. Setup webman mod to keep it cool and protect the CELL from overheating. Dump syscon and see if it has any errors. If no RSX errors then proceed with a delid and full system service with thermal pad replacement. If your RSX doesnt have any errors and is this old then its got one of the few good chips.

There is always the chance that when you rework one of these it could turn into a boat anchor. Delamination is a board killer and can happen even with proper drying.

She seems stable, for personal reasons she is at my parents house and I didn't have a ds3 to properly test it. She console showed an image on the screen I belive it was the hdmi auto detect in japanese. If the seller is to be believed he tested ps3 ps2 and ps1 game on the console.

The hesitation that I have comes from argument like this. The console can in theory last very long with an agressive fan curve. I am not a big fan of deliding is it really necessary? I will dive deeper into backing up / restoring data with erk before taking a decision
 
My concerns with these consoles is keeping the CELL alive. If you run webman and keep the CELL under 70c you should be fine not doing a delid unless you notice the fan starting to get real loud.
