PS2 what to know about IDE PATA and OPL?

Hello everyone. I'm about to buy an official Network Adapter to be able to play my backups with OPL. What I would like to do is buy a Pata HDD with the largest size available (it should be 320 GB) and avoid buying one of those unofficial SATA converters, I see that today problems with unofficial devices are increasingly common and it has become a fortune search to buy the right one. Since in my area the Network Adapter is quite rare and expensive, plus I have to buy the HDD, I would like to avoid adding a further expense for the converter which among other things could give me problems if I'm not lucky. I would like to know if there are problems in using these old Ide HDDs with OPL, what type of problems I might encounter and some tips on choosing the HDD to avoid physical size or compatibility problems. Thank you very much, bye!

No problems but You must find compatible HDD. Not all PATA are. Some are but have to wide space between MOLEX and IDE ports which makes it impossible to connect to NA without damaging it or mcguyvering.

Original NA + Bitfunx 2.0 SATA board works fine.

WD HDD don't fit the adapter, I got some big capacity ones from an xbox and they didn't fit. You need to break the shielding of the adapter to fit them
I use an 70GB IDE HDD formatted as exfat without problems, it is a seagate

Go with sata. High capacity IDE drives are rare nowadays. from my research those third party gamestar HDD sata adapters are OK. I personally use original network adapter + bitfunx sata board, buts its a more pricey option.

Things you need to look for:
Third party HDD sata adapter, its cheaper than original.
3d printed bracket 2.5" or 3.5" depends on the drive.
sata HDD 500GB.
freemcboot card, because its faster than freeHDboot. freehdboot does not require buying a memory card.
sata to usb adapter to transfer games, install freehdboot, 3.5" drives require more expensive adapter with external power. Or you have other means to connect hdd.
