PS3 Whatever we do, the hard drive only copies at a constant 1.3MB/s speed

A neighbor is having issues with his PS3. Every copy operation made to the hard drive is made at a constant 1.3MB/s. We tested from BD to HDD, from USB to HDD and from LAN to HDD via FTP.

For testing purposes, I removed the HDD, connected it to a PC and then made an image of it, then, I wrote the image back to the drive. It copied back and forth with no issues at 90 MB/s ~ 120 MB/s, so the drive is okay.

He has 4.92 CFW, Evilnat. He also has webMAN, multiMAN and IRISMAN installed. The FTP copies were made at the XMB, so webMAN. We tried to create an ISO from a BD game using multiMAN and we used IRISMAN to copy from my exFAT drive (Kingston Elite G2).

What is weird to me is that the speed is constant... 1.3MB/s no matter what.

This behavior is strange for several reasons, but have you tried doing it directly from a PC over the LAN using FileZilla, for example? I hope I'm not bothering you, my friend from Cuba.

FR: Oui, je l'ai dit dans le premier post.
EN: Yes, I said it at the OP.

C'est un plaisir de vous relire, mon ami.

ssd or hdd?
HDD. It works fine on the PC. We created an image of it and wrote it back flawlessly. Crystal Disk Info also says it is "Good", 100% blue.

I had a similar problem, but not copying files, it was reading files.
The games always had stuttering during FMVs, especially in the God of War franchise.
The solution was to replace the hard drive. For some reason my Samsung HDD was incompatible with my PS3. I replaced it with a different Samsung model and everything went back to normal.
Replace the hard drive and test it again.

SMR software bug? Hardware error? So to rule out. You can try formatting existing HDD, if you have a backup to restore from. When formatting doesn't work, try with fresh HDD. Who knows. :)

I went hard on testing to figure out what causes the issue.
I borrowed another console from a friend. Same model. I formatted the drive and it worked fine in there. So, the PS3 is the one to blame.
Then, since I was already making an image of the second console's drive while testing, I said f#€k it, let's give this drive a test ride on the already know slow PS3. I set it up and tried to copy a game to it from BD. It copied fine. That was weird. Why one drive worked fine and the other did not? The drive that worked properly is a 160GB one. So, maybe the amperage requirements are different? I went and restored both drive images back (250 and 160) and I put both drives back to their original consoles. So, for a final test, I took the power supply from the good console and put it in the slow one. Guess what happened? The drive now works great.
So, there it is. There's something funny happening with the power supply, so, time to look for a replacement before something else goes wrong in that console.
