PS3 Where to store files on hard disk?

Hello! I am a very new user to the PlayStation modding community and I have a question regarding storing files on the hard disk.

Is it safe to add a new folder in dev_hhd0 and put files (in my case, roms for Retroarch) via mmOs? I think this is where all the files are stored, but I'm hesitant to put my files there out of fear of bricking my system. If this is not safe, is there another place I could put them?

If it safe to create new files & directories in /dev_hdd0 always that you don't replace or delete system files.

Each backup manager has recommended paths where to store the files.

PS3 games in folder format are stored in GAMES folder and PS3 games ISO format go in /PS3ISO.

webMAN MOD read roms from /ROMS
multiMAN has an INI file where it has configured the paths where it looks for roms
