Would adding config to installed PS2 PKG ruin the save file?

Hey everyone!

I'm using HEN and playing PS2 games by usign PS2 Classics GUI, and I've been wondering whether applying a custom config that fixes a specific problem would ruin the already existing save file or not? I'm thinking of installing the game from the same region again, but I can't be sure of it. When I tried it before, it didn't install anything extra. It just replaced the installed game and the problem was fixed, but I didn't have any save file for that game. In this case, I have a save file and my progression is far enough for me to be afraid of messing it up.

If anyone has any experience with this, your help will be immensely appreciated.

So make backup of that save.
But anyway, in configs there are patches which emulator applies, rather none breaks saving/parsing saves. :P

Thank you for your reply!

I thought of making a backup of that specific save, but during the configuration part in PS2 Classics GUI, I tend to edit the game cover and background image to make them better if I somehow used placeholder images. Knowing the image of the save file on PS3 derives from the cover image you use, I'm afraid of making any modifications and end up ruining the save file for that specific game. Furthermore, adding config to the already installed game that is from the same region overrides the game itself. Since I don't remember whether any cover page or background image modifications apply to already installed game, I'm afraid of voiding the save file somehow.

Sorry, this save is rather important for me. That's why I probably ended up overthinking the whole thing.

What are You talking about? What do You mean by: "image of the save file on PS3 derives from the cover image you use". PS2 saves using build-in PS2 games icons, the 3D objects. Game cover used as ICON0/PIC0/PIC1/whatever, for game dir on PS3 HDD to displays in XMB, have nothing to do with saves.

I was talking about the cover image you use when creating the PKG file through PS2 Classics GUI. Your explanation was perfectly clear. Please forgive my ignorance on the subject as I have no knowledge how PS2 emulation works through PS3 and the whole thing seemed rather fragile to me. That's why I was afraid of such a thing.

Thank you once more!
