Hey,
I was browsing the forums when I noticed two threads I would like to add something to.
So I dug up this old account and saw I was not permitted to reply there.
Anyway, not a big deal, someone maybe could just reply there for me.
There are two requests about Life with PlayStation, including the Folding@Home feature.
This thread and this thread.
I wanted to add that Folding@Home is pretty much obsolete nowadays (even if it worked), not only because computing power is magnitudes higher than 15 years ago.
There have been advances in the last couple of years and machine learning models have been applied to this, providing major breakthroughs and accuracy of protein folding and/or dynamics (see this paragraph on the protein folding page on Wikipedia as first step), which render any effort to provide the PS3's compute to such a project no longer useful in terms of efficiency.
Think of it as having a very slow PC trying to keep up with massively powered machines mining cryptocurrencies.
Just in case someone decides to look into Life with PlayStation and consequently into Folding@Home.
Thank you.
