Does anyone know if there's a way to identify the laser type (e.g. KHS400c, HD7) that it's in a PS2 console without having to open the console?
Here's some screenshots from PS2Ident app that shows information about my PS2

The only way to clean rust from AV port is to desolder the AV port out of the board and then take the AV apart
Here's a video I found that shows how to take AV port apart and put it back together for restoring.
Right at the 34:00 minute mark
Does anyone have any tips or advice on how to remove rust inside of an A/V port? Not corrosion but rust.
Generally I am able to remove rust by scraping it off and cleaning it with rubbing alcohol however the rust goes pretty far back for reach.
Is there a good rust removal solution out there...
Thank you , that answered my question. And yes only ps1 games on NTSCJ 50000 console remain region locked (and DVD movies)
"Why do PAL/NTSC-J consoles not play NTSC/PAL discs (on FAT and 70k)?
The IOP ROM on those consoles has enforced strict logo decryption checks both in the PS1 and PS2...
North American SCPH 50001 PS2s have full region unlock for both PS2 and PS1 games when mechapwn'd from consumer to developer mode.
The Japanese SCPH 50000 have full region unlock for PS2 games but not PS1 games.
PS1 games remain region locked to Japan.
Why is this?
Is there a workaround or...
I found a 100 Stack of Jvc taiyo yuden cdr on eBay which are the real deal. I'm pretty sure the CMC PRo with taiyo yuden technology are just as good from what I've read online.
Jvc use to own taiyo yuden but now CMC produces them and I don't believe they are the same as lower quality Verbatims...
Mechapwnd PS2 not playing burned CDRs? Use high quality discs because disc quality matters
Context: Tested over 30+ PS2 consoles with PMAP calibration
Just wanted to share a useful piece of information out here and that is to use high quality CDRs when burning your PS1 games for your PS2...
Thank you for the confirmation. So it in both these cases , the right pot is for DVD.
Also same for HD7 lasers which also have a label "DVD" for the right potentiometer.
Definitely issue with the console. It's weird because it's a stock console with nothing done to it . Luckily opl boots and I'm able to run a few apps that work to give the console some flexibility.
Apps like hdloader and esr will boot but cannot read the discs.
Also what I can do in test mode...
I confused it with OSDSYS
I never tried OSDmenu...I never heard of it. I haven't tried but I have feeling OSDmenu (just like psbbn) will boot up no problem but won't load ELF files
I will try OSDmenu and will post update
I tried PSBBL which successfully loads OPL and SMS but still will not...
This problem maybe so deep that I'm not sure if anyone out there can take a guess what's going on with this PS2 scph 50001...
or the solution is so simple that I am blind to it ...
This console refuses to load FMCB/elf/or any homebrew
freemcboot just freezes at the splash screen. no usb/no disc...
