Following the release 4.81 FERROX Standard Edition CFW, Alexander has now put the finishing touches on 4.81 FERROX COBRA (7.3) CFW. This firmware comes with all the features of the Standard Edition plus has Cobra v7.3 and all the features like plugin support on boot, ISO support for PS3/PS2/PSP ect, NetISO Support (network loading/streaming of games and movies with ps3netsrv) .     UPDATE v1.01 & v1.01+​

    After considering the reports of some users, alexander updated version 1.01. Console on some fact was not syncing the controller to 'start, if you turn on the console via the Wireless Controller in the same mode. In fact, using the cable, or turning on with POWER button, the problem would not show up. Well, the problem was solved. This problem had previously seen on some firmware. The problem was in the TAR.   • TEST PERFORMED:
    These are the tests carried out by us on the console in our possession.


  • INSTALLING THE CFW:
    • Download the CFW at the bottom. Rename the File .pup exactly: PS3UPDAT.PUP and confrontatene the 'MD5 with what you find at the bottom! You can use the Tool md5sums.

    • Take a USB FAT32 formatted, and create a new folder called PS3, inside this create another 'other still called UPDATE, and inside latter' inseriteci the PS3UPDAT.PUP File, which would be the custom firmware.

    • Insert the USB in the far right of the PS3 port.

    • Be sure to: Remove any disc from the player Ps3, Remove any games loaded with any Manager, Disable Internet Connection.

    • Ok. You can choose to install the CFW from the XMB or from Recovery.

    • On the XMB will just go into 'Settings' column, then 'System Upgrade' and choose 'With storage media'. Select the CFW and will start the process.

    • To enter Recovery Instead, turn off the console. Turn it back on by holding down the Power button until the console is turned off again. Now turn it back on by holding down the Power button until you hear two beeps very close. Then release the Power button! Recovery time from the menu, select 'System Update' and follow the instructions.

    • For a clean installation, you can install 2 times the CFW. You can also go back into Recovery and click Options for Rebuilding the Database and Restore the System File. So you'll have a setup more than clean and safe.

Hey Guys, I have the PHAT PS3 and it is running CFW 3.55 Hermes (I think that is how you spell it). It has been about 4 years since I played my PS3 and now I am trying to get it up to date with multiMAN and CFW 4.82.

Last night I updated to multiMAN 04.82.00 BASE and I tried to play a new game I put on it (Metal Slug 3) and when I start the game it says I need to update my Firmware.

Now... which is the best and easiest method to update my CFW? What works best with multiMAN and how do I go about installing it? I have been out of the scene for so long I have just about forgot how to do anything (hacking/modding/installing Firmware).

Can I get a little help from someone? Is this COBRA CFW good? Does it work good with multiMAN?

This thread is for 4.81 Ferrox 1.01... As you're looking to update your CFW, it is recommended that you install the currently latest version 4.82. Here are the links to some recommended CFW:

- webMAN MOD - Another plugin based on webMAN with several features added.

- IRISMAN - It has some good features like better NTFS support than multiMAN

- ManaGunZ - Another great option - It's coverflow GUI looks awesome & it has the best PS2ISO support, thanks to its integrated CONFIG editor

Use version 1.01 of 4.82 Ferrox (it has Cobra 7.55 - which fixes 2 issues in Cobra payload when syscalls are disabled)

I prefer 4.82.1 Rebug Lite. Although FERROX is a good option too.

If you go with Rebug, install this Rebug Toolbox to update to Cobra 7.55 like in FERROX 1.01

Hey Guys, I am thinking about installing this CFW on my PS3 (I currently have CFW 3.55 I think). Is this CFW still viable or should I try the Rebug CFW?

The Rebug seems more complicated to install and get it up and running (Plugins, activating Cobra, etc).

Isn't this CFW (Ferrox) much easier to use and is kept up to date as much as possible?

Hello. 4.84.1 Rebug is not as complicated as you think, it only offers more options that you decide to use or not... I recommend you to try it; if you don't like it then you can install 4.84 Ferrox or 4.84.3 STARBUGED

In any case, install 4.84 of any CFW instead of 4.81.

Thanks man for the quick reply! I already have all the files ready to install FEROX (Version 4.81) but now I see on their website that they have this available for download... (Custom Firmware FERROX 4.84 COBRA 7.55 v1.00).

You can install FERROX 4.84 Cobra 7.55 v1.00 directly. No need to install 4.81 first.
