you're going to have to wait until the tools are updated.

When I change the Redbug Pup file I still get corrupt when installing it. I installed my HFW 4.86 now trying to get redbug

There is no need to update, you will only lose features and gain nothing.

Updating to 4.85 will not let you go online.

If you are on 4.84.2 REX (NOT DREX) you can use this vsh.self to ignore all new updates in future. Just put it in dev_blind/vsh/module/.

Use at your own risk. Do not use this if your on different CFW or HFW.

I forgot to say but I don't have webMAN MOD installed since it always freezes my PS3. Does it make a difference? If it doesn't work I may try spoofing to 4.86 with SEN Enabler.

That patched vsh.self method will work without webMAN Mod, the ps3-updatelist.txt method requires wMM.

Do I have to follow this video
when going from HFW 4.85 to 4.86 or do I just install it from via storage?

It seems I cannot do it video way :P Please will someone answer my nooby self. So those flash dumpers and memory things do not work for 4.86 yet.
My questions are:
1. I want to install the redbug firmware (installed 4.86 HFW) Must I wait until the flash tools are updated for 4.86 or is there anything I can do with this new HFW update? Please let me know. I want to know if I am doing something wrong, didn't have these issues with 4.85 because tools were updated

So, I updated to 4.86 without any jailbreaks or anything. Is there a way for me to downgrade the version to 4.85 or something?

Okay so I think i understand, just to confirm, that rebug 4.86.1 Lite PUP is for people who are jailbroken and want to update, correct? At this time, there is no way to install a CFW from a 4.86 OFW, as we are currently waiting for the other tools to update. Correct?
Thanks in advance, I don't mind waiting just want some confirmation!

Right, i just wrote a post here trying to explain it, im going to quote myself here too

To install a CFW is needed to write a file in a flash chip of your PS3
That file needs to be created by copying the data from the flash chip of another PS3 running a standard 4.86 CFW (not rebug CFW's)

The problem is... at the time im writing this doesnt exists any standard 4.86 CFW (unless someone released one in the last hours and i missed it)... so that file doesnt exists yet
Also, they wants that file to be the most generic posible, it should be the same file included in some tools like the "pyps3tools"

So in plain words... they are trying to organize it in the better way posible, the only way to do it right now is by rushing a bit, but thats not good... they are trying to avoid rushing ;)

The only thing missing is that file but bguerville toolkit is ready for it (all the code functions related are already made so no extra work as far i understood), at the time that file is released the toolkit will allow to install a 4.86 CFW

@sandungas
Thank you for that great write up, That was super informative. I do hope things are figured out. As they say "quality is never rushed"
It seems the toolkit has been updated right now, and that file i was talking about is available to be used in the toolkit, @STLcardsWS just updated the forum article about it :)

I pushed a no-fsm patch for 4.86 on the PS3 Toolset. The patch was made by littlebalup using Rebug LE CoreOS.

However this is only temporary, as the cobra patches in kernel are not only unnecessary but they might also be source of issues in rare cases.

I spoke to littlebalup quickly who concurs, as soon as a decent CEX CFW comes out, we will use it as base for a new patch & both PyPS3tools & the PS3 Toolset will be updated with it.

Added new image i made up quickly in OP

Enabling HEN freezes on any of the methods. Literally been happening on the past 3 firmwares. Why do I have to install HAN beforehand? Why doesn't the official installer work?

Darn I already got the hybrid frimware 4.86, never did the hen route last time(4.85 hfw). Is there a way I can back track and goto CFW? Just want the safest method for my online gaming.
Your PS3 model is a CECH-21xx compatible with CFW, right ?. Then you can go to the web with bguerville toolset with your actual 4.86 HFW and follow instructions
The toolset is going to do exactly the same in your PS3 if you have 4.86 HFW or 4.86 OFW... is the same procedure

Is going to write a patch in your flash chip (the file i was talking about in other thread), this patch allows to install a CFW. After that you install rebug 4.86 lite on top of the patched flash chip, and thats all

*And remember to make a backup of your flash chip contents at the first step (before writing in it)... just incase, is good to keep this backup at safe incase you need it at some point
