PS3 4.87.1 PS3 HFW (Hybrid Firmware) - HFW is helpful for installing PS3HEN on 4.84/4.85/4.86/4.87 FW

. Original Article (4.84 HFW - March 2019): Huge News as the PS3 exploit ladder has taken a step up into 4.84 rung, with a new approach to bring back PS3Xploit functionality on 4.84. With a Hybrid Firmware (NOT A CFW) that can be installed on ANY MODEL PS3 over any Official Firmware (OFW) version. .The only thing this modified firmware essentially does is bring back the patched webkit from OFW 4.82 that was an entry point for PS3Xploit, if you recall when 4.84 was released developers @bguerville and @esc0rtd3w stated the exploit was not actually patched but rather only the webkit entry used was removed in 4.83+ which rendered the actual exploit unreachable (not patched and could be restored). Now the webkit is back for 4.84 OFW thanks to this new clever magic that has allowed OFW user's to use and install this slightly modified Firmware.​

So, what does all this mean? Now it will be just like it was back in 4.82 before PS3Xploit was "patched"(some ps3xploit tools need updated still) you will be able to install a CFW (on a CFW compatible model) and for those unfortunate user's that does not have a CFW Compatible model (i.e. SuperSlim/late slims) you have will have access to the HAN exploit . So for new user's or ones that updated, here is your second chances thanks to the efforts of the members of PS3Xploit Team and to @Joonie (waved magic wand on files) and prepared this magically release, @habib (for valuable input on this project) and @esc0rtd3w (work in porting ps3xploit tools to 4.84) ​

It has been an exciting month here at psx-place with so much progress on all fronts of the PS3 . the fuel of this project actually comes from a user simply igniting a spark with an idea as @Doge_Rules did with this thread truly making it a community effort.     Restores PS3Xploit Flasher/Tools & PS3Xploit HAN for 4.84 OFW user's​

    Today, we proudly present the very first modified OFW that can be installed on all PS3 models. (NOTE: THIS IS NOT A FULL BLOWN CFW, HOWEVER IT Allows you to run the patched webkit exploit that's ported to 4.84)​

    Yes, you didn't hear wrong, it can be installed over
    • ALL OFW versions on ALL PS3 models
      • ex) OFW 4.83, 4.84 , CECH-3XXX, CECH-4XXX and etc..

    We wanted this to be called "HHHFW" since it was Hybrid, Hack-able, HAN ready also inspired by @habib but let's call it HFW since this is Hybrid FW (Well you can call this MFW).

    The idea was reminded by some guy who didn't want to be annoying but actually ended up being helpful: @ psx-place.com

    Habib had this idea long time ago but the previous attempt was not successful due to lack of interest and preparation.

    As you all know, I recently started messing with my PS3 again and this idea was brought back.

    So then I went ahead and tried his magical idea.... after a few hours later... Boom!!, now we have HFW that works on all PS3 models (including 3K and 4K) that allows the previously patched exploit by using old webkit from 4.50 that's been used until 4.83. This method is rather hacky than technical, so I would like to leave this method under the radar for now until it gets patched out (this can easily be patched).

    What can you do with this HFW 4.84.1/2?
    1. You can use PSN since the FW is the latest.
    2. You can downgrade/Install CFW on your PS3 if your model is downgrade-able/hack-able (excluding CECH-3K and 4K)
    (The same capability as what you had for 4.82 OFW)
    3. You can use HAN and all the tools that worked up to 4.82 with this FW.
    4. You can always go back to the real OFW 4.84 if you wish.​

    To all scener's and developers
    • Please update the HAN toolbox or any xml that can support 4.84 if anyone's available.

Hey all!
I had a little problem with this 4.85.1 HFW. The game goes back to XMB only in the game Fat Princess.(maybe because its the first game on the Game in XMB?) It shows the Santa Monica Studio logo (cake) and then goes back to XMB every time I start the game. Already tried to reinstall the game, both by PSN, and by pkg. Any solution? (note: this did not occur in HFW 4.84)

never heard of that problem. based on my experience, a licensed game won't boot if the license is missing, error at boot is usually an eboot problem, black screen is possibly a signing issue with self or sprx, infinite loading is often missing files. booting a game up, it showing the logos, then kicking you out, I've never heard of that, so it could be a hen issue. are you sure you have the license installed? it will be named after the content id, which you can find with ps3tools or through hex.

HFW is a combination of 2 OFW, it's 100% OFW, so don't be afraid to brick.

I learned how joonie made HFW 4.85.1, I saw dev_flash_15 which contained silk_webkit coming from OFW 4.76, there were 2 different files (explore_category_tv and mtpinitiator_plugin) between 4.76 and 4.85, I thought it was not related to games that didn't work.

Curious, because the game size is only 364.88 MB, I installed it, and it works properly.
This means your game is corrupt.

Very strange. Like I said, I downloaded it directly from psn because I bought it a long time ago. It was already installed when I upgraded to 4.85. I use HAN. I do not think it is a license error because the game would not even run.

I will try to reinstall HAN 4.85 by installing FW again and then redoing the process. If successful, I will keep you all updated.

Hey I am new here I just need a help from experienced dev or member cause I wanted my ps3 to get jailbroken so I gave it to my friend to do it and he made it ps3hen but he traveled to a different place and I now dont know how to update so I watched some videos on YouTube but Iam scared of to do something that I dont know anything about and break my system so I need some help with exactly what to do to update it (just a note I updated it from Sony but there is some vids say that I still can get my ps3hen so I still have some hope) thanks for listening

the best course of action really depends on if you can install cfw. try to update with minverchk. it will error and say what the lowest firmware that can possibly be installed is. if it's 3.56 or lower, you can install cfw. you can already do that on 4.84, but 4.85 -- the writer is still in testing. try to install minverchk on the xmb to see what it says.

I will try to talk cause Iam not good at this but I think I know what are you talking about if you are talking about that other way to jailbreak my ps3 that doesn't include hen my friend already told me that there are 2 ways to jailbreak it but he need to check if my ps3 Is compatible to the first way (which I think is the cfw) so it didn't work because he said that Iam higher than 3.90 so yeah he installed ps3hen (sorry that Iam talking too much but I really need some help at this) so yeah if you want me to check again I can do it cause I saw a vid on youtube that shows me how to check if Iam compatible again thanks for listening

I'm sure this is a dumb question but had to ask, why couldn't we just create a somewhat cfw/hfw that has prepatched files so we could just keep hen enabled at all times. So would be more of a cfw feel to it cause we wouldn't have to enable it every boot, and pls don't get me wrong I'm not complaining at all just the thought had crossed my mind. Maybe like a auto enabler at boot or someway to actually just keep it enabled

Oh ok, I'm curious though how we're able to build and use custom rcos without soft brick though on hen. I've dabbled in rco editing with PSP animations but couldn't figure out sprx files, makes sense they're more secure

What I was trying to get at before I looked at what I typed lol is that we can edit and use custom rco but not sprx? And if that's so how come we can use mod menus that are sprx

K then couldn't we sign them with the new keys and use the hen files and build them into the hfw to keep enabled or auto enable at boot, I'm not trying to argue bro I'm just ADHD lol so I think too much

the problem is that we don't know what those keys are. that's why hybrid firmware is taking an exploitable file from 4.82 instead of decrypting it, changing some stuff, then encrypting it back. the keys we'd be using are revoked, so the system would brick.
