PS3 4.87.1 PS3 HFW (Hybrid Firmware) - HFW is helpful for installing PS3HEN on 4.84/4.85/4.86/4.87 FW

. Original Article (4.84 HFW - March 2019): Huge News as the PS3 exploit ladder has taken a step up into 4.84 rung, with a new approach to bring back PS3Xploit functionality on 4.84. With a Hybrid Firmware (NOT A CFW) that can be installed on ANY MODEL PS3 over any Official Firmware (OFW) version. .The only thing this modified firmware essentially does is bring back the patched webkit from OFW 4.82 that was an entry point for PS3Xploit, if you recall when 4.84 was released developers @bguerville and @esc0rtd3w stated the exploit was not actually patched but rather only the webkit entry used was removed in 4.83+ which rendered the actual exploit unreachable (not patched and could be restored). Now the webkit is back for 4.84 OFW thanks to this new clever magic that has allowed OFW user's to use and install this slightly modified Firmware.​

So, what does all this mean? Now it will be just like it was back in 4.82 before PS3Xploit was "patched"(some ps3xploit tools need updated still) you will be able to install a CFW (on a CFW compatible model) and for those unfortunate user's that does not have a CFW Compatible model (i.e. SuperSlim/late slims) you have will have access to the HAN exploit . So for new user's or ones that updated, here is your second chances thanks to the efforts of the members of PS3Xploit Team and to @Joonie (waved magic wand on files) and prepared this magically release, @habib (for valuable input on this project) and @esc0rtd3w (work in porting ps3xploit tools to 4.84) ​

It has been an exciting month here at psx-place with so much progress on all fronts of the PS3 . the fuel of this project actually comes from a user simply igniting a spark with an idea as @Doge_Rules did with this thread truly making it a community effort.     Restores PS3Xploit Flasher/Tools & PS3Xploit HAN for 4.84 OFW user's​

    Today, we proudly present the very first modified OFW that can be installed on all PS3 models. (NOTE: THIS IS NOT A FULL BLOWN CFW, HOWEVER IT Allows you to run the patched webkit exploit that's ported to 4.84)​

    Yes, you didn't hear wrong, it can be installed over
    • ALL OFW versions on ALL PS3 models
      • ex) OFW 4.83, 4.84 , CECH-3XXX, CECH-4XXX and etc..

    We wanted this to be called "HHHFW" since it was Hybrid, Hack-able, HAN ready also inspired by @habib but let's call it HFW since this is Hybrid FW (Well you can call this MFW).

    The idea was reminded by some guy who didn't want to be annoying but actually ended up being helpful: @ psx-place.com

    Habib had this idea long time ago but the previous attempt was not successful due to lack of interest and preparation.

    As you all know, I recently started messing with my PS3 again and this idea was brought back.

    So then I went ahead and tried his magical idea.... after a few hours later... Boom!!, now we have HFW that works on all PS3 models (including 3K and 4K) that allows the previously patched exploit by using old webkit from 4.50 that's been used until 4.83. This method is rather hacky than technical, so I would like to leave this method under the radar for now until it gets patched out (this can easily be patched).

    What can you do with this HFW 4.84.1/2?
    1. You can use PSN since the FW is the latest.
    2. You can downgrade/Install CFW on your PS3 if your model is downgrade-able/hack-able (excluding CECH-3K and 4K)
    (The same capability as what you had for 4.82 OFW)
    3. You can use HAN and all the tools that worked up to 4.82 with this FW.
    4. You can always go back to the real OFW 4.84 if you wish.​

    To all scener's and developers
    • Please update the HAN toolbox or any xml that can support 4.84 if anyone's available.

Sorry if I'm being a noob here, but I'm kinda struggling to get the PUP file installed. My Ps3 recognizes both the usb drives I'm trying this with and I've even downloaded the file twice to make sure it's not a problem on my end. It's throwing me a no applicable update data was found error. I'm on OFW 4.84 on a SS CECH-4001B. Maybe I'm just not meant to install it yet? sorry for the trouble and massive congrats for this breaktrough.

Happy to say that I got metal gear solid 4 working on the console .. I really did all of this so that I can play that 1 game again... For the 15th time . Thanks to everyone for the assistance. Now it's on to figuring out how to install ps1 and 2 games on the console . Oh and wait for latest

i would take this chance to tell you that :

i use CFW2OFW back up then make PKG to install it as debug pkg on HFW, i tested my back up on CFW

so why do we still need to do this process to just to install CFW2OFW games thats already ready and no need to resign it. and why we need to back up a whole system to just inject a game or 2? back up a system with 300GB takes hours and restore it takes more time to only inject a game.

File Copier is a new feature that is not fully used, it only copy individual files.

could you please make it copy folders as a next feature ? or at least to inject CFW2OFW games to directory Dev_hdd0/game , for example inject content of usb000/game to Dev_hdd0/game . i wish to have more control over it but i don't know whats the limit you have in this exploit so i am sorry if i said too much. and thanks for the efforts you have made so far.

also i would report that make_back_up tools and CFW2OFW help v11 sometimes corrupt the game. i tested on God of war 3 and other games when Han was released. i don't remember much

In order to run those games on OFW they need to be NPDRM content, a disc game is not NPDRM content, but their updates are, thats why you need a game with updates in the first place. The game is "run" through its update. If the game doesnt have an update theres no point in copying its folder to the internal memory because OFW cant emulate a game disk due to the lack of homebrew support. You also said those games are ready, and yes, they are ready to be run on CFW, but this is OFW (or HFW if you prefer) and they cant be run the same way as in CFW.

Then regarding file copier, it only copies individual files because its a system limitation. File copier takes advantage of the exploit and runs a system function that copies files, but that function only has the ability to copy individual files, and not directories.

Hi guys. So a quick one, Is there an easy way to install ps1 games to the ps3? The process to install ps3 games is fairly easy and I have done so with the enitre metal gear series including metal gear solid 1 Just not sure how to do disc to of that game and other ps1 titles.

Have a CFW with Cobra installed and Enabled (I recommend Rebug 4.84)
Put PS1 games in PSXISO folder in root of Internal HDD
Then play :D
EDIT: To rip, go into multiman go to the disc hit:but tri: then hit "Copy"

Well I think that might not be possible with me .

I have a super slim 4xxx model. I tried installing multiman but I don't think my PS3 can do custom firmware or multiman... If I can then hellz ya!!! How do I go about installing multan

You can't get CFW, or multiMAN on super slim. Be grateful that you've got HAN.

can something similar to put pre-4.55 ofw files in 4.84 hfw pup to make cobra ode/e3 ode work again without swap disc on superslim??

Hii Brothers, I have PS3 4.84 and When I Want to Update at 4.84.2HFW the System Said : ''The latest version of the system software are already installed .. there is no need to update '' Please Help

Hey all, nice work!
Forgive me if this has been asked before or is just a stupid question but.....
I have a CECHL03 with a broken BD and as such I cannot upgrade any firmware, doing so results in a loop at best or RSOD in other cases, either way, whatever I try, it fails.
My question is, would it be feasible to create a build of HFW with BD removed (such as some of the other CFW's) and if so would that then allow me to complete the FW upgrade, install HAN and then a no BD CFW?

This was nothing to do with me really, I just tested it on a few consoles before release. :)

Not sure about your issue, what version of OFW are you on now?

If you was on like 4.80 to 4.84 it might be feasible for someone to port the writer exploit to those missing firmwares.. I don't know how much work is involved in that though either.

Well thanks for the testing then lol ;)
It was showing 3.60 (OFW) before I attempted to install this HFW, now it's asking for 4.84 or higher...
It was just an idea that came to mind which I guess would help folks resurrect many an otherwise dead machine but as you say, I too have no idea how much work is involved or if it is viable to do so.
