. Original Article (4.84 HFW - March 2019): Huge News as the PS3 exploit ladder has taken a step up into 4.84 rung, with a new approach to bring back PS3Xploit functionality on 4.84. With a Hybrid Firmware (NOT A CFW) that can be installed on ANY MODEL PS3 over any Official Firmware (OFW) version. .The only thing this modified firmware essentially does is bring back the patched webkit from OFW 4.82 that was an entry point for PS3Xploit, if you recall when 4.84 was released developers @bguerville and @esc0rtd3w stated the exploit was not actually patched but rather only the webkit entry used was removed in 4.83+ which rendered the actual exploit unreachable (not patched and could be restored). Now the webkit is back for 4.84 OFW thanks to this new clever magic that has allowed OFW user's to use and install this slightly modified Firmware.​

So, what does all this mean? Now it will be just like it was back in 4.82 before PS3Xploit was "patched"(some ps3xploit tools need updated still) you will be able to install a CFW (on a CFW compatible model) and for those unfortunate user's that does not have a CFW Compatible model (i.e. SuperSlim/late slims) you have will have access to the HAN exploit . So for new user's or ones that updated, here is your second chances thanks to the efforts of the members of PS3Xploit Team and to @Joonie (waved magic wand on files) and prepared this magically release, @habib (for valuable input on this project) and @esc0rtd3w (work in porting ps3xploit tools to 4.84) ​

It has been an exciting month here at psx-place with so much progress on all fronts of the PS3 . the fuel of this project actually comes from a user simply igniting a spark with an idea as @Doge_Rules did with this thread truly making it a community effort.   Today, we proudly present the very first modified OFW that can be installed on all PS3 models. (NOTE: THIS IS NOT A FULL BLOWN CFW, HOWEVER IT Allows you to run the patched webkit exploit that's ported to 4.84)​
  
  Yes, you didn't hear wrong, it can be installed over
  
  • ALL OFW versions on ALL PS3 models

Boom!!, now we have HFW that works on all PS3 models (including 3K and 4K) that allows the previously patched exploit by using old webkit from 4.50 that's been used until 4.83. This method is rather hacky than technical, so I would like to leave this method under the radar for now until it gets patched out (this can easily be patched).
  
  What can you do with this HFW 4.84.1/2?
  
  1. You can use PSN since the FW is the latest.
  2. You can downgrade/Install CFW on your PS3 if your model is downgrade-able/hack-able (excluding CECH-3K and 4K)
  (The same capability as what you had for 4.82 OFW)
  3. You can use HAN and all the tools that worked up to 4.82 with this FW.
  4. You can always go back to the real OFW 4.84 if you wish.​

First Flash HFW 4.84:

As I had started to flash my PS3 Super Slim I didn't known nothing about the webkit exploit at this time. I had heard only something of the HFW.

The installation of HFW 4.84 was a little bit awkward. My "mistake": I had made an online update from OFW 4.82 (I mean) to OFW 4.84.

When I had than activated the "safe mode", I flashed the HFW 4.84 again to took back the "mistake".

Since that the "Package Manager" folder is visible and HAN enable is no problem.

So far so good!


Second Flash HFW 4.84:

Yesterday as I flashed a PS3 Slim (without the webkit exploit; same as my PS3) from my best friend I wanted to prevent that I make the same "mistake" with the online update. I flashed the HFW 4.84 directly over the OFW 4.66.

After reboot I tried to enable HAN. No luck! I tried it with 4 or 5 attemps with each 3 or 4 pass through. I powered off the PS3, waited a little bit and powered on and try again. Nothing!

I cleared the browser cache and the browser history. Nothing!

Then I saw that the "Package Manager" folder was missing.

I activated the "safe mode" and flashed the HFW 4.84 again and since the reboot the "Package Manager" folder is visible!

I went inside the folder and enabled HAN with no problems!

By the way: HFW is a "Hybrid" FW. That means: a part of HFW is the OFW and a part is the HAN exploit (e. g. the "Package Manager" folder and the intern HAN tools).

Here is a quote from the related post:

"HAN ready" means the same as at "HD ready": the function is partially integrated but not whole!

You can view on "HD ready" televisions HD videos but no full HD.

At "HAN ready" there are core parts of HAN integrated in the HFW that make possible to enable HAN.

The "rest" of HAN you must installed self.



The first part of your statement is right (HFW is not HAN)! The HAN failure has something do with the HFW.

If you don't use the webkit exploit in an older FW you don't have a webkit exploit in HFW 4.84.

You get the webkit exploit and HAN if you

- update to OFW 4.84 and use "safe mode" to update to HFW 4.84

or

- update from the actual FW (in my case OFW 4.66) to HFW 4.84 and flash than in "safe mode" the HFW 4.84 again.

Try it self! Flash a PS3 without a webkit exploit!

Your claim about safe mode installation twice is necessary is total bullshit since I tested everything myself. I went from 4.82 to 4.84 without safe mode and webkit was usable after a few failures since the success rate has never been 100%. If you ever tried this on 4.82 you wouldn't be telling this to me. (going from OFW 4.66 to HFW 4.84 and OFW 4.82 to HFW 4.84 don't make any difference)

Installing HFW 4.84 twice only makes your ROS 0 and ROS1 both the same (mind you, only one of ROSs active at a time. ROS is just CoreOS) since dev_flash in vflash region will remain the same so installing HFW twice makes no difference although you think this is necessary.

HAN PKG manager is not part of HAN, HAN activated contents can be used without HAN PKG manager it only helps you install them. also you can do other things with HAN, (dumping stuff and file copy)

 

My opinon: it make a difference!

1. Joonie MADE the firmware. He knows more about how that works than you are even capable of.
2. Updating firmware, is UPDATING or installing. NOT flashing.
3. There is not one line of code in HFW that will create the package manager
4. Safe mode doesn't require activation at all, it is a MODE that you enter into
5. HFW includes the ABILITY to install/enable HAN, REGARDLESS of prior firmware

The guy made the firmware before you even knew it existed....

Yep, install 4.84 HFW and then re-install HAN using the HAN installer. If you're using HAN Toolbox, you'll want to update that too.

I have the super slim 4xxx model so I know I'm limited. The sad thing is there are 2 games I need in my life . Asura's wrath and splatterhouse. Both games have update folders and both are BLUESxxxx format. I can't get them to work sadly .

Anyway what else can HAN do. I'm very intrigued

hi there, now i try to do this method, because i had a 4.82 superslim, when the ps3xploit page says: soon no possible with 4.82, i update to 4.84...because why not? , but when i try to install the hybrid 4.84.2, the safe mode says "you do not need to update, beacuse you have newest..."and only one option to press O and go back, so what can i do now? thanks for everyone for help me

During those past few days I was trying to get a dump of NOR to HDD or USB but with no luck and today suddenly it worked giving me a juicy 16MB of nor dump so I quickly copy it to my PC and run a PyPS3checker and all tests are green so no errors for me but still I get a message that machine I was using to make that dump is not downgradable so my question is - Can I still count on CFW to install and work without any soft and (please God no) hard bricks? and if yes then should I use MFW modded to make my own firmware or what should be my next move now?

Your unit is NOT able to accept CFW, regardless of what you do.

I was trying with copying sprx files to /dev_hdd0/ along with boot_*.txt`s and somehow with manualy copied and added to XMB along with XMB+ files of multiple backup managers but I'd like to try with webman but I don't know yet how to create a folder inside root of /dev_hdd0/

HAN is not CFW
CFW runs homebrew, like prx loader, and webman, and backup managers.

This was available information on the ps3xploit site, and on all reputable guides and tutorials for it.

Without a model number, you have no idea what ps3 you have. Neither does anyone else.
If your unit CAN be downgraded, ps3xploit makes it possible without a flasher.
ps3xploit can also brick your unit, if you foolishly don't follow the guides and tutorials STEP BY STEP

 

Well its not such an issue on phats, they can all be downgraded. Its just which exploit to use NAND or NOR that is the issue for him. Anyway he got sorted.

Without a model number, there is no guarantee it was a phat unit. I've seen several mouth breathers refer to a slim as a phat and a superslim as a slim.
