PS3 4.87.1 PS3 HFW (Hybrid Firmware) - HFW is helpful for installing PS3HEN on 4.84/4.85/4.86/4.87 FW

. Original Article (4.84 HFW - March 2019): Huge News as the PS3 exploit ladder has taken a step up into 4.84 rung, with a new approach to bring back PS3Xploit functionality on 4.84. With a Hybrid Firmware (NOT A CFW) that can be installed on ANY MODEL PS3 over any Official Firmware (OFW) version. .The only thing this modified firmware essentially does is bring back the patched webkit from OFW 4.82 that was an entry point for PS3Xploit, if you recall when 4.84 was released developers @bguerville and @esc0rtd3w stated the exploit was not actually patched but rather only the webkit entry used was removed in 4.83+ which rendered the actual exploit unreachable (not patched and could be restored). Now the webkit is back for 4.84 OFW thanks to this new clever magic that has allowed OFW user's to use and install this slightly modified Firmware.​

So, what does all this mean? Now it will be just like it was back in 4.82 before PS3Xploit was "patched"(some ps3xploit tools need updated still) you will be able to install a CFW (on a CFW compatible model) and for those unfortunate user's that does not have a CFW Compatible model (i.e. SuperSlim/late slims) you have will have access to the HAN exploit . So for new user's or ones that updated, here is your second chances thanks to the efforts of the members of PS3Xploit Team and to @Joonie (waved magic wand on files) and prepared this magically release, @habib (for valuable input on this project) and @esc0rtd3w (work in porting ps3xploit tools to 4.84) ​

It has been an exciting month here at psx-place with so much progress on all fronts of the PS3 . the fuel of this project actually comes from a user simply igniting a spark with an idea as @Doge_Rules did with this thread truly making it a community effort.     Today, we proudly present the very first modified OFW that can be installed on all PS3 models. (NOTE: THIS IS NOT A FULL BLOWN CFW, HOWEVER IT Allows you to run the patched webkit exploit that's ported to 4.84)​

    Yes, you didn't hear wrong, it can be installed over
    • ALL OFW versions on ALL PS3 models
      • ex) OFW 4.83, 4.84 , CECH-3XXX, CECH-4XXX and etc..

    We wanted this to be called "HHHFW" since it was Hybrid, Hack-able, HAN ready also inspired by @habib but let's call it HFW since this is Hybrid FW (Well you can call this MFW).

    The idea was reminded by some guy who didn't want to be annoying but actually ended up being helpful: @ psx-place.com

    Habib had this idea long time ago but the previous attempt was not successful due to lack of interest and preparation.

    As you all know, I recently started messing with my PS3 again and this idea was brought back.

    So then I went ahead and tried his magical idea.... after a few hours later... Boom!!, now we have HFW that works on all PS3 models (including 3K and 4K) that allows the previously patched exploit by using old webkit from 4.50 that's been used until 4.83. This method is rather hacky than technical, so I would like to leave this method under the radar for now until it gets patched out (this can easily be patched).

    What can you do with this HFW 4.84.1/2?
    1. You can use PSN since the FW is the latest.
    2. You can downgrade/Install CFW on your PS3 if your model is downgrade-able/hack-able (excluding CECH-3K and 4K)
    (The same capability as what you had for 4.82 OFW)
    3. You can use HAN and all the tools that worked up to 4.82 with this FW.
    4. You can always go back to the real OFW 4.84 if you wish.​

    To all scener's and developers
    • Please update the HAN toolbox or any xml that can support 4.84 if anyone's available.

keep downloading the HFW but dont think its right (HFW_4.84.2_PS3UPDAT_03_22_2019.7z) i rename it PS3UPDAT.PUP but ps3 doesnt seem to read it can anyone help?

Hmm some informations are missing.
Where did you put this "PS3UPDAT.PUP"?
It should be in:
ps_pc_update_clip_diagram_us.jpg

Does your USB has been recognized by PS3?
Does it have FAT32 file system (MBR)...

Sorry guys am quite noob and its my first to try jailbreak my ps3 CECHGO1 and i know its nand but the problem is when i try to install cfw it tells me data corrupted i hav tried several times but did the same am sure i have followed all procedures well since i succed in writing nand patch but fail to install cfw after i turn it off and on
Please help any ideas i will be thankful in advance sorry for bothering if it is

What error code you're getting when you want to install CFW?

Yes, CECH-G01 has got NAND flash memory:

Hi... i try now since 2 days to install the hfw software on my Phat 4.84OFW. I got some weird issue with my ps3.

I created various usb sticks (fat32) and put the HFW file into x:\PS3\UPDATE\....

The usb Stick gets detected and i am able to install the cfw but in when i check the installed version it still shows only "Version 4.84" not 4.84 HFW....."

Anyone here got any idea why ? Theres no error message or anything else....

Do you mean in System Information? It won't say anything other than the firmware version in there (4.84) so it's perfectly normal. I don't see the issue. If you've already installed HFW once via the XMB, make sure to do it a second time via the recovery menu.

thanks for quick answer :) yes it shows that i got the version 4.84 in System information.

But how can i find out if it is installed now ? :)

I'm just curious, what gave you the impression that HFW would show up in the system information?

Use a PS3Xploit tool from the browser, if it works, you have HFW installed.

Not sure where you saw it lol but no it will never say CFW or HFW in System Information, only the firmware version (and not e.g. 4.84.2 but just the main firmware version). Use the following guide to jailbreak your PS3 and you'll soon know if HFW has been properly installed. I'd recommend installing HFW a second time though from recovery mode, to remove the risk of a bad flash dump.

yer the ps3 reconized the usb and its set out just like that it just doesnt seem to work?

Can you at least wrote what error code you're getting while you want to install HFW 4.84.2,
because "it doesn't seems to work" is kind of a f*** up.
Or something like update was not found...

thanks jolek for your help i really appreciate it much
i was on OFW 4.83 but updated to OFW 4.84 and installed HFW 4.84 then i dumped the nand flash memory from the site ps3exploit site on the ps3 and then saved it to my pc
i then put flash_hex file to my usb stick and put it back to my ps3
i then write flash and it succeded and as normal i turn off the ps3 in order for the patches to install and then turn it on and when i try to install CFW it says data corrupted thats it

What error code you're getting when you want to install CFW?
What CFW you want to install?
What version of CFW you want to install?
For start you wont be able to install FW below 4.84, e.g. Rebug Lite 4.82.2.
You'll have to install e.g. Rebug Lite 4.84.1.

Dumb question, but that quote made me doubt the firmware a little, after installing the hybrid firmware (which I did), do I still need to flash the console if I flashed the console before (OFW 4.82) or I can just install something like REBUG REX without flashing now (HFW 4.84.2)?

If your console was already on CFW then you should not have installed HFW at all. As you have now overwritten the patches applied, you will need to start from scratch like it was never exploited.

Once on CFW you never need to install OFW or use any xploits ever again. You can just update one CFW to another from the XMB.
