UPDATE (May, 2022) 4.89 HFW Released see here.
.
Original Article (4.84 HFW - March 2019): Huge News as the PS3 exploit ladder has taken a step up into 4.84 rung, with a new approach to bring back PS3Xploit functionality on 4.84. With a Hybrid Firmware (NOT A CFW) that can be installed on ANY MODEL PS3 over any Official Firmware (OFW) version. .The only thing this modified firmware essentially does is bring back the patched webkit from OFW 4.82 that was an entry point for PS3Xploit, if you recall when 4.84 was released developers @bguerville and @esc0rtd3w stated the exploit was not actually patched but rather only the webkit entry used was removed in 4.83+ which rendered the actual exploit unreachable (not patched and could be restored). Now the webkit is back for 4.84 OFW thanks to this new clever magic that has allowed OFW user's to use and install this slightly modified Firmware.

So, what does all this mean? Now it will be just like it was back in 4.82 before PS3Xploit was "patched"(some ps3xploit tools need updated still) you will be able to install a CFW (on a CFW compatible model) and for those unfortunate user's that does not have a CFW Compatible model (i.e. SuperSlim/late slims) you have will have access to the HAN exploit . So for new user's or ones that updated, here is your second chances thanks to the efforts of the members of PS3Xploit Team and to @Joonie (waved magic wand on files) and prepared this magically release, @habib (for valuable input on this project) and @esc0rtd3w (work in porting ps3xploit tools to 4.84)

It has been an exciting month here at psx-place with so much progress on all fronts of the PS3 . the fuel of this project actually comes from a user simply igniting a spark with an idea as @Doge_Rules did with this thread truly making it a community effort. Updated - to version 4.84.2 (see details below)

    FYI @STLcardsWS @esc0rtd3w @habib @Zar @aldostools

To devs - PS3HEN can literally be ported in 5 mins. or you could just use PS3HEN 2.3.1 and it should work right out of the box.

To everyone else - Don't rush your update until all the tools get fully ported & released.

  • 4.84.2 HFW (Hybrid Firmware)
    Restores PS3Xploit Flasher/Tools & PS3Xploit HAN for 4.84 OFW user's

Today, we proudly present the very first modified OFW that can be installed on all PS3 models. (NOTE: THIS IS NOT A FULL BLOWN CFW, HOWEVER IT Allows you to run the patched webkit exploit that's ported to 4.84)

Yes, you didn't hear wrong, it can be installed over

    • ALL OFW versions on ALL PS3 models
      • ex) OFW 4.83, 4.84 , CECH-3XXX, CECH-4XXX and etc..

We wanted this to be called "HHHFW" since it was Hybrid, Hack-able, HAN ready also inspired by @habib but let's call it HFW since this is Hybrid FW (Well you can call this MFW).

The idea was reminded by some guy who didn't want to be annoying but actually ended up being helpful: @ psx-place.com

Habib had this idea long time ago but the previous attempt was not successful due to lack of interest and preparation.

As you all know, I recently started messing with my PS3 again and this idea was brought back.

So then I went ahead and tried his magical idea.... after a few hours later... Boom!!, now we have HFW that works on all PS3 models (including 3K and 4K) that allows the previously patched exploit by using old webkit from 4.50 that's been used until 4.83. This method is rather hacky than technical, so I would like to leave this method under the radar for now until it gets patched out (this can easily be patched).

What can you do with this HFW 4.84.1/2?
    1. You can use PSN since the FW is the latest.
    2. You can downgrade/Install CFW on your PS3 if your model is downgrade-able/hack-able (excluding CECH-3K and 4K)
(The same capability as what you had for 4.82 OFW)
    3. You can use HAN and all the tools that worked up to 4.82 with this FW.
    4. You can always go back to the real OFW 4.84 if you wish.

    To all scener's and developers
    • Please update the HAN toolbox or any xml that can support 4.84 if anyone's available.

hallo. do i need to update to official 4.85 before installing HFW oder can i do this from 4.75, where i am atthe moment? thanks

yes the cookies and javascript were enabled. i have tried disabling them both but still get the same results. the progress bar jumps from 50/51% to 100% everytime i try to install HFW 4.85.1 (installing from the recovery mode yields the same outcome).

I'm not sure what is your problem?
Installing HFW or entering PS3Xploit site?

Update straight into 4.85.1 HFW, do it twice.
Once normally from XMB, second time from recovery menu.

Reason for edit: fixed typo

ok so now in near finish but one issue. when i compare MD5 from ps3xploit from the flash_485.hex to the checksum in the using writer help section, it gives me a missmatch.
when i download it from psx in the official thread and compare it to the checksum there, is ok.
Any imput from pros here?

Here is md5sum from http://**ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new)/help/writer.html:

Theoretically info should be about flash_485.hex/flas_485.jpg,
not about references files, because it could also point at Release Files,
so it can be a little bit misleading IMO.

Anyway check minver that you can install on your console:
https://www.psx-place.com/resources/minverchk-minimum-version-checker.610/.
If it'll higher than 3.56 do not try to install CFW.

i know. the checksum is the same but the online md5 says a red X. thats why im asking.
im already on 4,85 HWF, ready to go but i did the check and it says 1.00 and up can be installed(i hae a old one i know,-)

but what flash_485.hex should i use now? from here or the one from the ps3xloit.com?

Sorry I maybe tired, but if you check every letter\number they are all the same:
even at your screenshot:
2D74B066E7453E6B1336E36C410FB1EB
vs.
2D74B066E7453E6B1336E36C410FB1EB

I don't know why you're getting "X" at the end, but the same thing you can do with WinMD5Free:
http://www.winmd5.com/.

BTW I'm getting "✓" at the end:
md5sum-sha1.png

but what flash_485.hex should i use now? from here or the one from the ps3xloit.com?

What md5sum you have for flash_485.hex/flas_485.jpg from "ps3xloit.com" and what from "here"?

BTW before using Writer, I suggest to dump your memory by using Flash Dumper:
dumper.png

Check it with PyPS3checker:
https://github.com/littlebalup/PyPS3tools.

When everything will be ok, use Flash writer.

After you'll use Flash writer use once again Flash Dumper and check your dump with PyPS3checker (yes, once again).

ok now i dumped my NAND and the Pytools give me all green no warnings no errors.
so i already have a fine Nand dump on my pc. But now again, i downloaded the writer from ps3xploit going in flash writer =>HFW 4,85=> download release files. i put the hex file in the http://www.winmd5.com/ and i match it with the MD5 from the writer infopage and again, it says mismatch. wtf! i just want to make sure before i write something in my PS3

https://ibb.co/VLk7sQ9

i will go on, but the only thing that stops me is that all checsum tool say X or MISSMATCH, altough the letters are the same

lol when i just copy and paste your md5, then it says matched (i look the ready 485hex already from the ubs drive. lol. ok, so i think i can go on with ithis file to write the nand?

Maybe he have problem with file proprety read only or doesn't have permission to folder where hex file exist

Theoretically if there will be a problem with permission md5sum will not be generated,
because access to file has been blocked?!

So it may be encoding...

If everything is ok, you're on HFW 4.85.1, you've dumped memory.
Proceed to the next step and use Flasher.
Since the lowest firmware that can be installed on your PS3 is 1.00,
you probably have CECH-A01 with NAND memory.
If I'm wrong try at least not to make mistake and choose proper memory.

If you'll have any problem from USB (flash_485.hex) try HDD (flash_485.jpg).
After that make another dump and check it.
If everything will be fine install any 4.85 CFW you like.
