PS3 4.87.1 PS3 HFW (Hybrid Firmware) - HFW is helpful for installing PS3HEN on 4.84/4.85/4.86/4.87 FW

. Original Article (4.84 HFW - March 2019): Huge News as the PS3 exploit ladder has taken a step up into 4.84 rung, with a new approach to bring back PS3Xploit functionality on 4.84. With a Hybrid Firmware (NOT A CFW) that can be installed on ANY MODEL PS3 over any Official Firmware (OFW) version. .The only thing this modified firmware essentially does is bring back the patched webkit from OFW 4.82 that was an entry point for PS3Xploit, if you recall when 4.84 was released developers @bguerville and @esc0rtd3w stated the exploit was not actually patched but rather only the webkit entry used was removed in 4.83+ which rendered the actual exploit unreachable (not patched and could be restored). Now the webkit is back for 4.84 OFW thanks to this new clever magic that has allowed OFW user's to use and install this slightly modified Firmware.​

So, what does all this mean? Now it will be just like it was back in 4.82 before PS3Xploit was "patched"(some ps3xploit tools need updated still) you will be able to install a CFW (on a CFW compatible model) and for those unfortunate user's that does not have a CFW Compatible model (i.e. SuperSlim/late slims) you have will have access to the HAN exploit . So for new user's or ones that updated, here is your second chances thanks to the efforts of the members of PS3Xploit Team and to @Joonie (waved magic wand on files) and prepared this magically release, @habib (for valuable input on this project) and @esc0rtd3w (work in porting ps3xploit tools to 4.84) ​

It has been an exciting month here at psx-place with so much progress on all fronts of the PS3 . the fuel of this project actually comes from a user simply igniting a spark with an idea as @Doge_Rules did with this thread truly making it a community effort.     Today, we proudly present the very first modified OFW that can be installed on all PS3 models. (NOTE: THIS IS NOT A FULL BLOWN CFW, HOWEVER IT Allows you to run the patched webkit exploit that's ported to 4.84)​

    Yes, you didn't hear wrong, it can be installed over
    • ALL OFW versions on ALL PS3 models
      • ex) OFW 4.83, 4.84 , CECH-3XXX, CECH-4XXX and etc..

    We wanted this to be called "HHHFW" since it was Hybrid, Hack-able, HAN ready also inspired by @habib but let's call it HFW since this is Hybrid FW (Well you can call this MFW).

    The idea was reminded by some guy who didn't want to be annoying but actually ended up being helpful: @ psx-place.com

    Habib had this idea long time ago but the previous attempt was not successful due to lack of interest and preparation.

    As you all know, I recently started messing with my PS3 again and this idea was brought back.

    So then I went ahead and tried his magical idea.... after a few hours later... Boom!!, now we have HFW that works on all PS3 models (including 3K and 4K) that allows the previously patched exploit by using old webkit from 4.50 that's been used until 4.83. This method is rather hacky than technical, so I would like to leave this method under the radar for now until it gets patched out (this can easily be patched).

    What can you do with this HFW 4.84.1/2?
    1. You can use PSN since the FW is the latest.
    2. You can downgrade/Install CFW on your PS3 if your model is downgrade-able/hack-able (excluding CECH-3K and 4K)
    (The same capability as what you had for 4.82 OFW)
    3. You can use HAN and all the tools that worked up to 4.82 with this FW.
    4. You can always go back to the real OFW 4.84 if you wish.​

    To all scener's and developers
    • Please update the HAN toolbox or any xml that can support 4.84 if anyone's available.

could someone help me? i got 4.86.1 on my usb, i have installed it like 4 times but it still shows up as 4.86, how do i install it properly? i even tried recovery mode install

well, just saw a tutorial video and it seems like the HFW not showing up in system is normal, but i still got a problem with HEN, the ps3 cant load the miniweb page i set up, got the ip's right but i still get error 80710092

I have installed this ps3hen in my 30xxxxb slim model. Every this is OK upto game installation. When running installed game just blank screen in coming and this i need to switch off using power button. Even I tried downloading another game same this unable to run game just blank screen please help me.

The file does not exist. 
Note : This error can happen when you try to install a pkg that has an invalid name.
Obviously the system is failing to find a file it needs.
You may wanna double check your ps2 classics placeholder r3 installation in
/dev_hdd0/game/PS2U10000.

You didn't exactly say whether you are using PS2 Classics Manager or PS2 ISO Launcher or multiman...

I will assume you are only using multiman & ps2 classics placeholder.

Is the game a properly encrypted iso located on internal hdd?
The encrypted game iso's full path should look like this.
/dev_hdd0/PS2ISO/GAMENAME.ISO.BIN.ENC

If the iso is not encrypted, you can use multiMAN to encrypt it.
Put the ISO in PS2ISO folder.
Boot multiMAN, switch from mMCM to normal mode in the settings column.
Once restarted in normal mode go to retro column and find your ISO.
Press X pad button and it will convert the ISO file to ISO.BIN.ENC to be used with the Placeholder app.

Be patient on loading PS2 Classics Placeholder, it can take a little while before the black screen is replaced with game loading.

Just a detail, this needs to be made in opposite order, first restore filesystem, and then rebuild database

The reason why im saying this is because the database is rebuilt based in the info taken from the filesystem, if we rebuild database with a broken filesystem there could be errors in the database that has been inherited from the broken filesystem

In other words... the success of the database rebuilt depends of the health of the filesystem

I'll post this here since I'm not sure if it would be necessary making my own thread for this question.

I'm still on 4.84.2 — I don't go on PSN much, if at all anymore. If I do have a need, I use a proxy server. Question is — if I installed 4.86 for the sake of PSN access — Would I be able to install HEN 2.1.0 (or any other past version.) or would I be forced to use the latest?

i think the latest version is the only one compiled for 4.86. it may be possible to use the 4.86 offsets to compile an older version but that requires sony sdk.

since it is easy to remove hen (by installing hfw again) i would recommend trying the latest hen on the firmware you are on first (because of course you can not downgrade firmware). if it works well for you then you can update. i know there are some people who had problems with later 2.x hen but the latest version is more stable.

I a total PS3 newbie, both to the console and to modding. I screwed the pooch somewhere during the jailbreak process. I followed this guys instructions


and everything was fine except on my XMB I didn't have any of the multiman options I have seen online and HEN couldn't do an automatic update. While trying to fix these issues I lost HEN, and I can not reinstall it. And Multiman is still on my console but can not be run. Any suggestions?

why share a video that didnt work? the video author doesnt even know what a jailbreak is (hen is not a jailbreak).

his links are not official. dont know what you are downloading then. get hfw from psx-place. get hen from **ps3xploit.com >Domain no Longer owned by team** (ps3xploit.me =new) and get multiman for hen from here. get other homebrew from brewology or psx-place.

You should start fresh by re-install OFW followed by HFW. Then start the HEN install process again.
That video only shows you how to install the HEN exploit and also uses a method most don't use (The guy in the video is hosting the exploit on his PC, while most people use the Ps3Xploit webpage).

If you get stuck, follow my sig for a HEN guide, this also covers installing things like homebrews.

Cautious Coro, always hard at work making the scene safe for the masses....

I'm sorry to say though, that the link for HFW in that YouTube video is legit and is the same URL linked in this very news article.
