4.93 EVILNAT (Cobra 8.5)

PS3 4.93 Evilnat w/ Cobra v8.5 - (CEX/PEX/D-PEX) 4.93

I just wanted to play a DVD as a rehearsal, but the message Error Code came 800299D2 Evilnat D-Pex Beta 8 4.91 I have a Cecha00 and I wanted to play a Pal DVD, that went before.
I also had to replace my drive, I now have a BD 410 in it. Previously it was BD 400

Unfortunately, on Evilnat's CFW, DVDs can't be played on DEX. If this is something important to you, you can either convert to CEX, or use REBUG DEX instead. Hopefully @Evilnat can patch this in the future.

Thanks for the info, do you know if Blu-Ray works? On dex No, I tested the DVD, I just wanted to know if it was just me. Because with Cex DVD works with the new drive.

I didn't test Blu-ray on DEX, but I don't expect it to work.

EDIT: Just tested and have observed the following:
1. With CEX Kernel and DEX TargetID, the PS3 shows a black screen and becomes unresponsive.
2. With DEX Kernel, error 800299D2 is shown.

Well on Rebug firmwares it is patched to work

  • FEATURE – Full BD/DVD Playback support on both CEX/DEX mode
    • (BD/DVD movies can now be played on DEX mode, major thanks to mysis!)

@Evilnat can take a lot at it or @Joonie can send him the patches to make things easier.

I don't remember what I did to make this work.

I know ISO files do work on both CEX and DEX though but I am not sure about region protected discs

@LuanTeles @Evilnat

looks like it's just a signing flag on bd player self files... and I did confirm they were running via ISO method... I don't think the physical playback is working.

Thank you @Joonie

Well, in the OP post it says, 'mysis has found a solution for Blu-Ray disc playback (0x800299D2 fix) on DEX.' It's the same error @CFW-Us3r reported. Maybe it should fix it and work with physical discs as well.

Let's see what @Evilnat says. I can't test it myself because the only physical disc I still have is not working anymore. It kicks back to the XMB

I should clarify that my test was on Evilnat's CFW. I can install REBUG DEX and try both a physical DVD and Blu-ray if it would be of use to anyone.

EDIT: I decided to test anyway. On REBUG 4.84, both DVD and Blu-ray playback is working with DEX TargetID — on both CEX and DEX kernels.

I have another question, can I use saves with the function fake save data owner again in normal saves? The fake save data owner function does not exist at Cex.
I found this for Cex, but it doesn't work.

I haven't tested any of these suggestions, but I can't see why they wouldn't work…

1: If using the PEX version, you should be able to swap the debug settings to DEX and enable Fake Save Data Owner while still technically on CEX.

2: You could copy your saves to USB and use the Convert savedata option in Custom Firmware Tools > PSN Tools.

3: If all else fails, Apollo Save Tool should allow you to resign all your saves and use them again: https://store.brewology.com/ahomebrew.php?brewid=321

You can swap your sysconf_plugin.sprx with the dex one to have it on debug settings, also you can edit your xRegistry.sys to enable it (without the option) or use webMAN mod for it /xmb.ps3$xregistry(/setting/system/fakeSavedataOwner)=1;/reboot.ps3

i don't remember if it needs the basic_plugins.sprx from DEX to work properly, i tested it a few years ago on HEN. To make the save tied to an user again, you can use Apollo.

Can you please test if it now works on this initial BETA 9?
Code:
Changelog

+ Fixed random blackscreen while enabling QA Flags
+ Fixed 0x800299D2 error code (Blu-ray playback in DEX mode)
+ Updated [Toogle OFW Mode on Boot] option to allow to restore syscalls automatically
+ Added PlayStation Home (by @DeViL303)

PEX: https://mega.nz/file/IcU0ESIJ#FuGKynN2BWoB1_Dudc4tcowgrX3wTOUmfBqH2yYUt7w
D-PEX: https://mega.nz/file/1V0iiD5Y#7O8sCzlWCsj512njvUary0oCEITqQ1alZc7ELXw1DBw

I just finished testing, and have observed the following…
CEX TargetID and CEX Kernel: (Blu-ray: Black screen — PS3 freezes when the PS button is pressed and Yes is chosen to quit playback), (DVD: No issues).
DEX TargetID and CEX Kernel: (Blu-ray: Same as above), (DVD: Black screen and PS3 freezes immediately).
DEX TargetID and DEX Kernel: (Blu-ray: Same once again), (DVD: Error 800299D2 is shown).

@Evilnat, curiosity got the better of me, so I decided to take AacsModule.spu.isoself, bdj.self and bdp_BDMV.self from REBUG 4.84 and add them to BETA 9 of your CFW — now Blu-ray playback is working in all scenarios. However, DVD is the same as I noted before.

Unrelated, but I think it would be a good idea to add a note in the description of the "Check File System" option, stating that the option won't work if "Improper Shutdown Warning" is set to Off.

bdp_BDVD.self is still not signed properly.

Interestingly, grabbing this from REBUG didn't solve the problem. With CEX TargetID and CEX Kernel, playback worked. However, on any other configuration, the clock icon in the top right just continued to spin when trying to play a DVD.
