PS3 4TB NTFS external PS3 USB drive showing in PC as SCSI device

As stated in the subject, drive works and games show in PC and PS3... but this happened once and I freaked out, getting a message on PC that the directory was corrupted and unreadable. After this happened, I tried it in the PS3 and Webman wasn't showing anything. After connecting to another PC, it booted fine, showing that all the games were still there. Today I connected it it to both PC's and got the same corrupted message. Could this be a simple fix? I know the games are still there but this is just annoying

Ok so it seems this is because I didn't turn the drive off after removing from the PS3 - any idea why this happens though?
