PS5 A question about the PS5 heating up.

My PS5 recently had a problem with the laser lens 2 years and 8 months after I bought it. I found it strange that it had a problem so soon, since I have a PS3 and a PS4 where the laser is fine.

I replaced the laser lens on Monday and today, after playing GT7 for 80 minutes, I decided to remove the disc and turn off the PS5.

When I picked up the disc, it was hot. I touched the area where the driver is and it was also hot. Since I have never worried about overheating, I don't remember if it was like that, since the PS5 runs quietly and is clean.

The other side of the PS5, where the power supply is, was cooler than the side with the disc drive.

So, I would like to know if your PS5 also heats up the disc reader area.

My PS5 is from the 11xx series and has always worked vertically. Now I will try to place it horizontally.

I never remove a disc from the PS5 unless I'm going to swap discs. Strange that it would be hot though, considering the PS5 copies the game to internal storage. Every now and then, I can hear the disc drive, which I think are periodic license checks. I think the PS5 runs cooler than the PS4 though, because it has an intake on the top of it.

I always left the disc inside the drive, but around September 2024 I started removing it when I was playing a digital game, because with the disc inserted I could hear it spinning at times even though I was playing a fully digital game.

In December 2024 the laser lens did not recognize Blu-ray discs, only DVDs.

I hope it is heat transferred by the power supply that is on the opposite side of the disc drive. The disc drive does not have components that heat up, it is worrying if it is heat from the power supply because the laser lens is sensitive to heat.

The disc being inside the drive may even be a thermal barrier protecting the laser lens, but with the heat it is the disc that tends to suffer and who knows, even warp.

Today I will test the PS5 horizontally, since the disc drive is on the bottom, according to physics, it should not suffer from heat since hot air tends to rise.

Yeah, I'm not sure what it's doing when the disc is spinning while playing a digital game. That's about the only time I hear the system.
