Hey guys. Relatively new to the PS3 scene so i took a while before coming here.

I'm trying to sign a pkg file to my console but in order for me to do that, I obviously need to have my ACT and IDPS files. For some reason, Initialization always completes, but trying to dump them to my USB drive always fails. I'm on a Super Slim running 4.88.1 HFW, I've got backups working and such, I just really want this PKG to be signed and I cant get it done. I've tried putting my USB in both ports to no avail.

Any help is greatly appreciated, and if you need more information from me, just ask. I will give you the answers without any fuss.

Why not use PS3HEN & official pkg files rather than all this HAN resigning business?

Anyway

1. Make sure the usb device is working, use a small USB key with a MBR partition formatted in FAT32. To be sure it works, you can try XMB functions that can use USB storage like the video/music/photo XMB features.
2. Make sure you have an act.dat to dump, if a console is not already activated via PSN, there is no act.dat to dump from the current user profile folder.

FYI
Those old HAN tools are very crude & largely obsolete, esc0rtd3w updated them because some people asked him to but their use is to be avoided whenever possible.
Those old tools cannot give any feedback to a user, when an error occurs you don't have any way to know what the error might have been & what to do about it.

In coming weeks, the PS3 Toolset will provide a much more functional way to copy files, dump system information/data & apply patches like HAN directly from OFW. It's quite likely that the old HAN Tools will never get updated again after that. Until then, you can get your IDPS with the PS3 Toolset but not the act.dat file.
