PS3 Always have to rebuild database

Hello everyone, I just bought a 2001b locally with intentions on putting CFW on it. Before doing anything I tested it for functionality. The only thing that didn't work on OFW was the Blu-Ray laser. CD could be read just fine.

I have a new disc drive assembly arriving later today so that'll hopefully fix that. My other problem is now that I am running EvilNat 4.91 Beta 9, I have to Rebuild the Database every single time I start the console. If I don't do it and just boot up normally the system freezes in about 5 seconds. Sitting idle, or moving through XMB doesn't matter, it will freeze every time regardless.

I'm very skeptical of this being a HDD issue since it worked prior to jailbreaking. I plan on replacing the HDD with an SSD very soon, but I really don't think that's what is going on here. I'm wondering now what my best course of action is. I've searched this issue for days now and have not gotten anything. Any help would be insanely appreciated.

Oh and as long as I rebuild the database prior to startup, everything performs just fine. Can play games for hours off internal storage with no problem.

To exclude HDD fault You need test it. Connect to PC and check S.M.A.R.T report. Without it, any discussion about that is pointless. Various of applications informs users about overall judge of status by some colors or good/bad etc. but You must paste here whole report, close it in [ CODE ] [ / CODE] brackets.

In assumption HDD is fine, If something forced PS3 to freeze etc. it is possible that breaking filesystems and from that rebuild database came from on each boot after that happen.

Besides that, beta fw is beta for a reason. Yet, I never heard of anything similar to Your experience.

So I haven't been able to get a SMART report yet, but I dont think it'll be necessary. By complete accident, my replacement blu-ray disc drive assembly arrived and when I installed it, I forgot to plug back in the ribbon cable that connects the drive to the motherboard. When I turned my PS3 back on I had no freezing like I was previously experiencing. I turned it off and on a few times and it is consistently not freezing with my blu-ray drive unplugged. As soon as I plug it back in however, the freezing resumes unless I do a database rebuild on startup. As an added bonus, the disc drive works perfectly, blu-ray and cd are being read and played just fine, no problems with a few hours worth of play either.

Question is, now what do I do? I have a new 1TB SSD that I was going to install regardless of whether the HDD was the culprit. Is there something in CFW that calls for the drive on bootup that doing a database rebuild would bypass? This is so weird. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
