Back Up Games to OFW PS3 (4GB FAT32 limit)

Hi Everyone,

I have a 4.82 OFW PS3 and I have used the Back Up inject method to move Journey to my PS3 and it works great. However, the other game has files over 4GB and the PS3 can only see FAT32 Hard Drives. How do you solve this?

You'll have to wait for Ps3xploit's further development which will allow us to run servers and transfer games directly cuz fat 32 has a 4gb limit and there isn't a workaround. Also don't get your high as it may take a long time.

Use PS3Xploit v2 to jailbreak your PS3 with CFW then use prepNTFS (wMM) or PFS Driver (mmOS) which allow you to use NTFS instead of FAT32. This is only required for external HDD drives connected via USB on the PS3. You could dump the game to a folder on your PC via net0 using PS3NetServ.

Btw when injecting a large number of games, it'll create new dat files right. If i remember correctly from the pexploit days, it'll create multiple new dat files depending on the size right? I also remember there was a specific size these dat files can reach. If it's less than 4gb, you can inject a large number of games at once right? Assuming you have a large external hard drive.

I haven't messed with this stuff in so long but I'm thinking you're right.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies, I've gone through all of them. I generally don't like to reply to threads I've created without some experimentation first. I shall not list how to back up games (there are plenty of guides for that). I was able to install my games on to a PS3 with OFW 4.82 through the Back-Up/ Restore method.
@junaid, yes you are correct; I've tried it out with both a small game and a large one. With the large game smaller "dat" files were created. The major downside I ran into was the space requirement for "TrueAncestor BackUp Retailer". It requires around 3 times the storage of the actual game and the paths cannot be changed (At least not that I'm aware of).
@Syst3mSh0ck, My PS3 is not jail breakable, I have a phat PS3 as well, it's what I'm using to make the backups, but it has a bunch of heat issues.
@pink1 , thanks as always. I do know a little better but just a little.....:)

When it comes to big pkg files, those can eventually be reorganised into several pkg as long as resigning isn't an issue but single game data files over 4Gb have been a problem on fat32 ever since the introduction of JB type backups to the ps3.

A ftp server on CFW helps although I never found the ftp servers very reliable or fast enough for huge transfers & I always favoured ntfs ever since its introduction for file transfers & storage.

However on ofw there is no ntfs support & no existing tool I know of that can help you with this problem.
Getting a ftp server to run means homebrew execution so that's off the table for the moment.

In userland, using ROP, there are 2 options worth considering.
1. It is possible to split such a file into 2 parts, copy them to hdd then use a specific chain to merge the 2 files.
2. Leverage the download plugin & download the file directly from a local Web server over LAN.
Both options are feasible but not available because nobody wrote those ROP chains yet.

In the meantime, I dunno if there is a size limit to the picture or video files one can store on XMB. If there isn't, it might also be possible to download the file directly as a picture or video from a typical url link on a html page then once downloaded copy it with ROP to its game directory destination using a simple sys_fs rename syscall...

Thanks for the info, but I actually made a backup and used the tool "TrueAncestor_BACKUP_Retailer" to inject the files I wanted. The tool splits files into < 4GB and they are reassembled on the PS3 upon restoration. I then used the ROP Chain exploit to place any missing files. It seems to work so far. :)

The video idea seems pretty neat, I just might experiment with that. I'll post my results when I get the chance.

Yes of course there is the TA backup tool.
I thought you could not get it to work for some reason & were left with a big file to move, in which case you were without alternatives.

@bguerville I think there isn't cuz I once copied a large BluRay file for testing a tv.

@matnyaga what do mean by the path? The only thing you can change in TABR is the output folder. Also use mega to download games as you can delete and download them back if you are running out of space as it downloads at Max speeds

Oops, I hadn't seen this reply.
@junaid what I meant was TABR has to copy game files to the workspace folder and then copy the back up files to the Output folder before conversion, which can be very taxing on HDD space, instead of moving the files. I wish there was a way for TABR to have the files placed directly on the workspace folder and begin conversion but alas...
