I'd like help in understanding what are the best (based on my requirements) currently available options for playing PS3 backups on a CFW PS3.
I've got a super slim PS3 and HAN has been awesome for me mainly because the "no homebrew" limitation makes it simpler.
I can either use PSN games or disc backups using CFW2OFW.
And PKG Linker can be used to transfer everything which is what I've been doing.
I admit that I had some issues even with those but at least I didn't have to think if any other options might be better...
Now I'm setting up a fat PS3 with CFW for a friend and the available options have not been good for me...
First of all I like the fact that with the options available for HAN, the games appear on the menu under Games.
It's simple. My friend finds even the PS3 menu intimidating...
Some of the options on CFW require a few extra steps in order to run the games which I'd prefer if possible to avoid in this case.
From what I've gathered the available options for PS3 games on CFW are the following - and this is where I need your confirmation, correction, addition etc :
- rips (on ISO or folders/files form)
These are copied over to the HDD and it's like having the disk on the HDD.
One drawback is that the PS3 also creates an instalation folder (just as it would do if there was a disk) which eats up even more HDD space and perhaps performance is less that using a disk.
Another drawback is that this requires Multiman/Webman to run (they basically sort of mount the file(s)).
Obviously for some games this is the only option.
Finally in order to transfer the game you either use FTP (Multiman/Webman), or a FAT32 usb, or an NTFS USB using Irisman.
Is all this correct?
Is it possible to use CFW2OFW like on HAN - obviously only on the games that work on this method?
Do converted games work like PSN games where the PS3 doesn't create an installation folder?
If yes then do you have to sign the pkgs or you can use them unsigned? Is the process decribed somewhere?
- PSN Games (which I prefer even when the game is available on disk).
After transfering the pkg (ftp or usb) and installing it you use ReactPSN to install the rap (via usb).
This for me doesn't have the convenience of HAN/PKG Linker where you use PKG Linker to transfer both signed pkg files (actual game and rap file converted to pkg) and install them.
The latter has the inconvenience that the files have to be signed first but I prefer that than using USBs.
Can the rap be converted to a pkg and installed on CFW like on HAN? How? Does it have to be signed?
Another issue is the use of PKG Linker on CFW.
I've read that the option can be added to the menu without installing the HAN Toolbox.
HAN Toolbox can only be installed on Rebug 4.82.2. Is this true?
Thank you for reading all this.
