Hello everyone! I've been visiting the site for years using your wealth of information I have never been steered wrong except for the tokin cap deal long time ago. This was years before there were syscon available to us. But now as being a owner of another launch console and the board COK-001 It seems that the previous owner of this board also got the NEC capacitor fever but there's been nothing installed in their place and only on one side they've been removed not the best condition but workable. I've just been poking around on those power rails (I can't find my serial TTL USB adapter new one will be here in a few days) for all 8 and I may have found something? The side without the main IC's has them removed.
On the chip side (a?) there are four pads leading furthest to closest to the Cell and RSX. The closest pads to those IC'S have continuity to all grounds and each other. Every pad had 0.2ohms to each other. Bottom negative to top or bottom positive and every combination of all 24 pads! (32 I know but dup negative) After removing the remaining 4 on the chip side, now only the positive pads closest to the IC's show a short of 6ohm to ground and OL/no continuity to furthest positive pads.
It did 3 beep YLOD.
I'll know more when USB adapter arrives for syscon.
I have a service manual and am currently trying to see if there are any passive components I could pull and test. I had already ordered a thermal pad kit and the caps, slow boat should be here in 2-3 weeks. If anyone has links, ideas, feedback or suggestions I could pursue in the mean time I greatly in advance thank you for your efforts to help me. Thank you and I hope everybody's having a great day Cheers!
