PS3HEN Best way to backup data for HDD upgrade

I'm planning on upgrading my PS3s storage in the future, since it's the stock drive with low storage space, but needed to make sure on some things.

I'm looking to make sure my files are backed up but not sure the best way to go about it, I know of the XMB backup utility but from my understanding that doesn't back up everything.

This would be for an offline non synced account and the development wiki mentioned being able to just copy folders, with the occasional resigning if the number doesn't totally match up (000001 instead of 000002 etc), not sure if it's really that simple (like "copy 000002 from devhdd0/home on a big drive, have patience, and your good) or if there's any extra steps I need to keep in mind for that, apart from reapplying HEN and HFW upon upgrading obviously.

User number and NP Account IDs must match to have working saves, trophies and licenses. No need of resigning anything is needed if You keep/recreate those values on the same console from which they came. The rest content aren't signed (maybe Singstar DLCs only?).

So if You do not want to bother with selecting data, just copy all from "dev_flash2" and "dev_hdd0", and restore them in exactly that order with reboot between.

Literally just dev_flash2 and dev_hdd0? That's good to know.

That PS3 has two accounts and one of em is PSN synced, would that be an issue at all? I don't intend on keeping it forever and I assume if I only copy the offline one *that's* when I'd need to do resigning, not sure if it'd be an issue or if it's literally just "nah just copy and your fine"

Literally their contents.

It doesn't matter under condition that You will copy "dev_flash2/etc/xRegistry.sys" and restore it. If not, You will need to resign every save and trophy set for every user. Remember also to rebuild database as step 3 or You will not see anything new in XMB.

Do I set up the drive, rejailbreak, *then* restore? or do I boot into a recovery mode and restore flash2 -> hdd0 first?

You don't have access to anywhere but what XMB offer, so You must hack console anyway, which means it must be installed HEN or CFW first whatever You like it or not. ;)

After that, run any filemanager and copy data back - as I said before - first to dev_flash2, reboot, and for HDD. Rebuild database from recovery, and if HEN will stops working, install it again. After all of that, You will have everything ok. If digital purchased games will not launch (You will get info to renew the license) and trophy corrupt and saves will be read only or not recognized (game will tell You), then there is user number mismatch (for none activated accounts) and/or NP Account ID mismatch (for activated accounts) - which means You did something wrong. ;)

Hi Berion, you may have seen my forum post in another forum. I'm trying to backup as well. I'd like to keep the same ps3 just put in a bigger hard drive. If I understand correctly I need to copy everything from dev_flash2 and dev_hdd0 files. I already have the Xregistry file copied but didn't pick up the ERK yet. I'm not sure if it's required. (I have evilnat CFW not rebug so not sure how to get ERK).

Then, after that copy over dev_flash2, reboot, then copy hdd0 files, and rebuild database? Thanks. (I already have the save stuff backed up just not the game data yet I get an error code). I'd rather just use a usb drive and copy rather than pc. I'd like to keep it simple.

Update: Apologies. It looks like it may have simply been corrupted file system. I rebuilt the file system using recovery mode, and it seems to be backing up nicely. Hopefully it reaches 100% with no errors. The problem was it gave me an error code and when I looked it up online it said "low network memory" whatever that means. No mention of "bad file system" or else I'd have tried that. Sorry for my newbie problems, but I was able to mod the ps3 pretty easy with no problems. I wasn't expecting this, for what seems kind of easy process.

hey i know this thread is kind of outdated but i am trying to transfer data from my ps3 internal hard drive to another 1tb hard drive and all i really care about is my isos and game save data, if this is the case all i have to do is copy dev_hdd0 and dev_flash2 and then recopy them files over when i install the drive and get hen back correct?

you know what i mean man, obviously im going to swap out my hard drives and then install hen before i paste the two folders back into my ps3. I just need to know if this is sustainable

Everything copied over fine - saves, trophies, but there was an issue with my system activation when upgrading my hdd. I can't seem to activate my ps3 now so I have to spoof it for some games.
