PS3 Best way to clone PS3 HDD/SSD to another?

What's the best way to copy/clone a Playstation 3 HDD/SSD to another, most likely larger one?

I'm guessing it's to use a computer, with USB3 (i do have a dual SATA docking station in USB3), but which software is the best for this purpose?

Because i don't want to re-install the stock firmware, re-softmodding everything and recopying all of the games and softwares. If i can just clone to another SATA storage, that would save a lot of time!

You won't be able to increase the size though.
Yeah that's kinda why i said most likely to a larger storage, because this 512gb SSD i have here is kinda cramped and i would like to put a 1Tb in there instead, but if there's a way to clone everything and resizing the partition to take advantage of the extra space, then that would be great.

Hmm do you think Acronis TrueImage 2021 could work? I have a Bootable CD with that on it, and i do use this to clone computer SSDs to newer ones, and sometimes they're larger and it have no problem resizing everything to work great.

AFAIK It's not possible on PS3. Berion has a great guide on here to transfer existing data from one HDD to another.

alright so that mean i'll have to redo everything from the very beginning if the storage dies or if i want a larger drive.

If You will not copy data before it dies or just want change it, that's exactly what it means: loosing everything. Just use file manager and/or ftp client to backup data on PC. After setting up CFW or HFW+HEN, You can restore everything. Read my guide. ;)

How to clone PS3 disk in theory? First You would need ERK to deal with decryption and encryption, second You need know how to recreate custom partition table which she using. Three: You need tools to manage UFS2 filesystem. And last obstacle is VFLASH partition which contains per console data and we don't know how, what and where exactly, so rebuilding it is impossible (yet NAND model don't have VFLASH, only main partition (UFS2) and cache (FAT32)).

Yes, as everyone said. And to put it simply:
-Backup everything from your current PS3 internal HDD to some external storage (most importantly folders: exdata, home, game, PS3ISO) (Your PS3 can copy everything in about 24 hours).
-Install your new HDD/SSD, install a file manager, copy those folders back to your PS3 (again 24 hours)
-Rebuild database

You should find almost everything installed again.

You don't need copy everything, it is waste of time and space.

How long it takes, whatever You decide to copy, depend of amount of data and interface bandwitch (FTP via LAN; FTP via WLAN; USB 2.0).

Not almost but everything.

i'm assuming your console activation remains if you change drives and PS3 format the new one. would have to just reinstall HEN and file transfer, correct?

@bazzarre Formatting means also deleting everything, so everything means also eg. act.dat. ;) At least on NOR models. Maybe on NAND doesn't.
oh yeah, thanks for pointing that out,age is creeping up. me and my missus are gonna swap PS3s instead and delete my account on the problem one, after using Apollo Save Tool i discovered there is a corrupt file on there somewhere and that needs to be ruled out as a potential problem.
