PS2 Black screen with OPL 1.1b1629

I recently installed OPL 1.1b1629. It only gives me a black screen when I have my HDD installed in the drive bay on my fat ps2. I tried an older version and it worked and started. I've got 414 games on the HDD. Is there something I need to do or use a later version or something like that? How would I troubleshoot?

Well I have an underlying issue now--I can't even create a folder on my MC. I think there's another problem going on here.

It's one of those Max 16mb memory cards. I'm considering just wiping it and doing that. It does have FMCB on it. I'm not good with these things--the guy that made me the memory card with FMCB on it used a dvd or a cd to do it. How would I get FMCB back on it after I do this? I only have my modded ps2, and the single memory card right now. Should I go get another memory card?

If that's the case better to launch the FMCB installer: https://www.mediafire.com/file/5c93karba29sjf8/[190413]FMCB-1966-bin.7z/file

It can correctly format memory cards of any size. Do this way:

- launch it and use the "remove multi-install" function, then "remove FMCB" function.
- with R1\L1 keys go to the "format MC" option and format it.
- Install FMCB, install, then select normal (only for that ps2 model) or cross-region (if you plan to use that MC on any other ps2, even from other region). The normal will save space on MC, but having a 16MB one it's not a problem whatever you choose.

P.S. First thing to do before all of that. Power on the Ps2 without any MC inserted. This is to see if you have FHDB on the HDD. I don't know why but most sellers set the Ps2 with both FHDB and FMCB, this will lead to problems, you have to use only one of them.

OK I'm downloading that now. Is there one that has all of the other stuff(media center/wLaunchElf/OPL) loaded?

Say, I have one of those PS2/PS3 memory card adapters. Could I use that to write an image to the card or something?

Yes, if It is SONY Memory Card Adapter Playstation 3 PS3 / PS2:

@kruuth You cannot clone FMCB because it is signed by Magic Gate, which means signed per specific physical Memory Card (this is how Sony designed updating firmware and this is what FMCB using). If You want create image, and restore it, sure that's not a problem, i.e using MCA (Memory Card Annihilator). But without replacing kbit and kc sections of executables it will not boot.

That is NOT TRUE!

I remember i readed that advice in most guides. I don't have much personal experience, I remember when i bought the 39004 (it was already setted with FMCB on MC and FHDB on a 250GB HDD) I used them both for a while and things where a little confused if i correctly remember (exiting from certain program it loaded FMCB or FHDB and i didn't know where settings where stored, etc...).

Anyway what's the pro of using them both simultaneously?

I totally forgot about that. I didn't know if maybe that was bypassed somehow with FMCB but apparently not. Waiting for a new MC to show up, which should be today.
