Can a PS4 Controller be used wiressly while playing PS2 game on the PS3 or you need a USB cable?

Any insight on this?

Already tested and I had to have to have the PS4 controller connected via USB cable in order to play to the PS2 ISO on the PS3. I'm aware that the controllers lose sync when lauching a PS2 title. Anyway to maintain the DS4 sync wiressly?

The DS3 controller loses wireless sync when launching ps2emu but then regains it for as long as you use Cobra 7.3.
Using a DS4 controller wirelessly on a PS3 though is much more problematic, never mind with ps2emu...
You could try using the XPad plugin with a Bluetooth dongle.

but I dunno how it fares with ps2 emu. I have never tried... Check the threads maybe someone has...

I do not think X-pad would not work as a plugin would not be able to run while in PS2 mode on the PS3. This is the reason for the Fan settings to be set prior to launching entering PS2 mod with webMAN if not mistaken. been awhile for me with PS2 on my PS3, other then some con

@habib or @Joonie how plausible is it to add DS4 functionality to the cobra ps2 emu itself. ?

edit: the ps3 firmware has dualshock 4 support (limited if i recall), the official support was not as good as Xpad if i recall from reports..

I agree I doubt xpad will work as well due to its plugin form but it's the only thing to be tried at this stage.
There's no way otherwise to get the DS4 to work & it's true, official support is pretty crap...

As to adding DS4 support to Cobra's ps2emu...??
Adding an xpad like feature with a dongle is far from ideal & am not even sure how easy that would be...

Extending native DS4 support with the internal Bluetooth would be the ideal way in theory but I dunno how realistic such a project would be....
Am pretty sure Osirix would have done that instead of xpad if it were an obvious option.

Xpad and a dongle do not work as I use Xpad for my DS4 which is my primary pad I use on the PS3 as Sony's official support using it as a HID device is lacking to say the least. Once you go into PS2 mode all plugins stop working except the fan control portion of webMAN MOD. There was a reason for that maybe @aldostools can shed some light on why the fan control continues to work in PS2 mode.

If DS4 support could be added by @Joonie @habib or @mysis would be amazing.

there was an app on the ps2 to use either a ps3 or a ps4 controller, but afaik, it never got out of the beta stages. and, yes, u'd need a usb cable for that. the problem is that I believe the ps2 wireless uses ir with a dongle input into the controller port. it doesn't allow bluetooth at all without a dongle considering. the ps2 is not meant for wireless really. I have the official wireless controller (3 in fact), and it doesn't work all that well. if u want a great wireless controller, u should check out the wavebird on the gamecube as well as the pro controller on the wii-u. miles above anything sony or microsoft has ever produced. I had a wavebird that had been sitting dormant for over 2 years, and the batteries still worked without charging them. the pro controller can last for over 80 hours. the ps4 controller lasts 4-7 hours tops.

Yea famous developer xerpi who has worked his magic and coded apps from everything from PS2, PS3, Vita, 3DS and more.

It's called libds3ps2 for using the DS3 on PS2 and libds4PS2 for using the DS4 on the PS2 but does require a USB connection while being used but it should be noted this plugin worked for using a DS4 on a full BC PS3 before Sony added this feature.

is that the app I'm thinking of. u could launch it on the ps2 via ulaunch elf, but u couldn't use it in game.

btw, when were u going to ask me out on a date? I'm sure ur gf would understand. ;)

That's the app and I got enough on my plate with a woman a decade younger then me and a child coming up on a decade. Fook I feel old, toss three dogs, a cat, and a mom that reminds me of Norman Bates in a flipped Psycho scenario I think I got all I can handle adding two jobs as well. Here it is 5:06am and have to be up at 7:30am for kid to school and back to work. Thank god for Xanax for a few hours sleep, adderrall to keep moving and oxycodone for the pain in my twisted spine. Now time to play these new PS4 games I got off the flash sale. The Tale Tell Batman game and 7 days to die.. .

Getting other controllers to work with the PS2 emulator (especially full BC consoles) would be awesome. I purchased a Hori Fight Pad which has PS4/PS3 compatibility but it will not work on the PS2 emulator when in PS3 or PS4 mode but DOES work on PS1 games. This will be awesome if this is something that can be implemented!

If controller is working with PS2 emu on usb cable (ps. is good to know PS3 model, as bc consoles support some USB pads from native ps2 side. Probably not DS4 but who knows.), then making it wireless should be doable.

A lot depends how controller is recognized by PS3, if PS3 categorize it in "hid" category in registry, then is almost impossible to support it. If is categorized as a standard PS3 controller (DS4 is different case btw.) then it should work, or be visible in PS2 game.

Thanks for the insight.

Yes, you can use a PS4 wireless controller to play PS2 games on PS3 console! I recently created a new thread titled "Solution YES to question Can a PS4 Controller be used wiressly while playing PS2 game on the PS3" where I presented my solution on April 5, 2024. If still interested, please look it up, it worked for me.
