PS3 Can I recover my PS3 from this?

Hello all, today I decided to bring out my old phat PS3 to play some classics. The PS3 was running HFW 4.86, however, when I tried enabling HEN it either freezes or it reboots itself. After struggling with this for a couple of hours, I decided to try and update the FW. I downloaded HFW 4.88 and tried updating to that but the progress went to 99% and then gave an error message (8002F14E). After that, it got stuck in an update loop. This is when I realized that the BD is bad. I tried "fixing" the situation by formatting the HDD so I can enter safe mode and install the FW through there, however, now after 20-30 minutes of waiting on the "Checking... Please wait." screen, I get the "The data is corrupted 8002F2C5" error message. Lastly, I tried flashing the latest OFW, however, the situation remained the same, still the 8002F2C5 error. Is there any way I can fix this or is my PS3 bricked? Thank you for your help!

I was wrong. When I try to install the OFW it gives me an 8002f2e4 error message. I thought it might be my USB stick, but I tried multiple ones and it was still the same.

Try installing your first HFW 4.86 and see if it works, don't install OFW directly until you recover. When you get stuck with firmware failing issues, the only thing you should do is to install what was previously installed in a working state, after you recovered try to fix your bad BD or else you wont be able to play games, You can also play games with a bad or no BD but requires you to have a no BD CFW installed. You have to jailbreak your ps3 for that. good luck

Yeah, this was the first thing I tried to do but to no avail. At this point I think I'll have to bring it to someone who can do something at hardware level as the update software option in safe mode now freezes the console. I tried the rebuild database option too but that's endless wait on the "Preparing... Please wait." scren. Thank you for the help though!

Okay, so I managed to get the console out of the "data is corrupted" error messages by formatting the HDD again and trying to install OFW 4.87 which I downloaded from the psxhax forum, however, I am back into the update loop with the 8002F14E error message. I opened to see if something could be wrong with the blu-ray drive connections, but everything seems fine there, the Blu-Ray takes in and spits out disks just fine, whenever a disk is entered, the blue light lights up, but that's all. I guess recovery is not possible without a fully functional BD.

This error indicates a bad BD, try fixing it first, also watch this video if it help you out.
Remember you can't use other ps3 BD on your own ps3, because every BD is married with it's ps3 motherboard, Only you can change BD drives when you have cfw installed in a properly working state and then follow the marry process. Good luck

Okay, I got it to work by using something inspired by this method. It turned out that the black part of the BD connector, meant to hold the flat cable in place had been snapped off and the connection wasn't good enough. Fixed that issue by sticking a thin piece of cardboard between the flat cable and the connector. That way it made the connection and let me install HFW 4.88 and from there I installed CFW 4.88 with no BD. If someone else is stuck in a similar situation can give this a try. :)
